Quest 3 - charging light on headset not turning green even though 100% charged

On my Quest 3, the charging light on the headset is not turning green even though it says it's 100% charged in the headset. The light just stays orange.

Any thoughts?

Dear Meta,

I very much appreciate your help in getting the community through this, and I got my light working again after a few weeks. Here is what I did:

First off I tried charging it for hours and that didn’t work.

Then I tried to factory reset it and that didn’t work

After that I noticed a few things about this problem. When I plugged in the charging chord it took about 7 seconds for the led light to actually turn on, and the same for when I unplugged it, it took about 7 seconds to turn off. Anyway I’m not quite sure exactly what made it work again, but before it worked again I took it and plugged it into my Nintendo switch charger for like 15 seconds, then I played on it for a while, next I plugged it in when it was at 66% and after about 2 and a half hours it turned green! I was so happy in this moment. Then I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it went green again, meaning that it is responding with the battery percentage.

I hope that this is in some way helpful to you, but I know I don’t really have a solution, but I will say after I charged it to 100% and it was still orange I didn’t touch the headset for a full day until I played and it worked again.

sorry for the long reply, hopefully this doesn’t waste your time. And I will say I am incredibly excited for your new augments coming out hopefully soon! I can’t wait!

I'm experiencing something similar too. It has a bright orange LED when charging, then dim red when it's about 98%-100% charged. I submitted a ticket to Meta, but they haven't been able to confirm if this is a charging/battery issue or software. They asked if I could send it in for evaluation, but it would take a few weeks to get a replacement. The headset seems to charge, hold a charge and function just fine otherwise. Did you happen to have any luck?

I was hoping for this to sort itself out when my headset updated.  It has updated to Update 29 but still no green light.

I'm trying to decide whether I care enough to do a factory reset.

Hi there @MAJ161.RED & @tyrant8499! We hope you all are having a wonderful day! We know how important it is for our devices to function as intended so we would love to get this fixed as fast as possible! At this time, please try giving a factory reset a try by following these steps:

- Turn off your headset.
- Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
- Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
- Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

Please keep in mind that factory resetting the device will wipe it completely clean, but you are able to turn on Cloud Backup by following the steps listed HERE. Once the factory reset has been completed, please go ahead and reinstall the mobile app to your phone and try pairing it all up again. We hope this helps, but if not, please feel free to reach back out to us at any time! Have a legendary day!

In case it helps, I updated to v59 and also did a factory reset too. I used the headset until the battery fully depleted and the headset shut itself down, then fully charged the headset overnight. Still saw the dim red light in the morning. I couldn’t seem to get an answer from Meta if it was just an LED feedback issue or if it’s a charging/battery issue. I didn’t want to risk it down the line, so since I was still within my return window from the vendor, I replaced it. The new headset shows the correct green light when charged.

Hi again @tyrant8499! Thank you for reaching back out to us so quickly! We're glad to hear that you were able to get the device replaced and your new device is working properly! If you ever have any future questions or concerns, please feel free to reach back out to us at any time! We hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

Hi, I appreciate that you are helping the community with this problem, and I recently got my headset for Christmas and my quest 3’s charging indicator never goes green anymore just like the people in the posts above. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hey there, @Anorak_42, thank you for the heads up! The charging light properly indicating the status of the headset is pretty important. We would like to recommend giving a Factory Reset a try to see if that will reset the indicator. We would love to know how that goes!

So I talked with representative at your customer support, and they suggested a factory reset too, I have just completed a factory reset, but my headset is at 30%, but when it gets up to 100 I will tell you what happens. Fingers crossed!🤞
