Quest 3 completely bricked - does not respond to charging or power button

Thank you to anyone reading this thread.

Earlier today I switched accounts on my Oculus from an alternate account (used by family) to my main account. After I clicked on "Confirm" in the account switcher, it sat there for about 15 seconds, before a diagonal black-and-white pattern showed up for several frames followed by the headset completely shutting off. It is not responding to the power button, and charging the headset doesn't have anything pop up on the screen. No LED lights show up either. I'm going to be RMAing this to best buy soon if there is anything that works to fix this as I assume this is hardware issue, but if this happened to you please give me a solution.

Also by the way because of a glitch the headset isn't paired to my phone at the moment (which only makes this situation even worse) so this headset is basically a paperweight.

Hi @foursixwastaken

Have you tried a hard reset by holding down the power and volume rocker switch, if successful select the reboot option and hopefully that brings it back to life.

Have you made sure to leave the headset on charge for a good couple of hours or so, I would remove any accessories that have access to the USB port and charge the headset only using the USB on the side.

Hope this helps

Sorry if I haven't made it clear, I haven't used my headset in several weeks and I recently got an email about it after I logged back on.

I looked it up after I made this thread, and holding the power button for 15 seconds or longer helped with getting it working again.

Thank you! Works perfectly as described. Took about 15 seconds.

Not problem at all, glad you got it working again 😎

Not sure why this is an accepted solution. Has foursixwastaken accepted the answer? I have a similar problem and it's not responding to any button combination suggested.

Hey GameDerp! we would love to help you get your headset to power back up. we totally understand how it can feel when you are all ready to enjoy VR and your headset wont turn on. Lets go ahead and start out with some basic troubleshooting steps and see if that does the trick!

Please follow the steps below:

If the headset is plugged and no battery icon is displayed, and no LED's come on:

  1. Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during this time.

  2. Try a different Cable/Charger; if possible, test the cable and charger (adapter) separately to determine the faulty component.
    • If a known good Cable or Charger resolves the issue, no further troubleshooting is required. Check the Warranty Guidelines for warranty coverage on the accessory
  3. Ask the customer to charge the headset without the facial interface. Some facial interfaces may block the proximity sensor which can impact the power of the headset.

  4. Ask the customer if they are using the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.) If so, have them disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories and try charging the headset again.

  5. Try charging from a different Source (another PC or different wall outlet).

  6. Ask the user if they have spilled liquids on the headset.

  7. Hard Reboot the headset
    1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device"

  8. Factory reset

If the headset will still not charge after completing the above steps please let us know so we can look into more options. We hope this helps.

I have a similar problem except the charging light is on but doesn't actually charge.  Now it's completely dead and I can't turn it on.
