Quest 3 controllers won't charge on Charging Dock, but headset is charged

After seeing my batteries that came with the charging dock failed, I have requested a pair of new batteries. I received my second pair of new batteries, but so far both sets of replacement batteries do not work.

I placed them correctly in the left and right controller, and when I put everything on the charging dock, all three lights become orange.

In fact, all lights get green at some point. However I only hear a brief sound tune for the headset to acknowledge it is charging, but not for the batteries (unlike my original set of batteries, which did result in a sound when placed on the dock).

When I wait several hours and try to the VR headset, the controllers aren't recognized, assumingely because they haven't been charged, but the headset is 100% full.

When I put regular AA batteries in the controllers, I feel a gentle buzz to indicate the controller is charged and both my controllers work. But when I put the special batteries in that come with the dock, nothing....

I'm confused - to me it seems Meta is sending me dead batteries twice? Or am I doing something really stupid?

Thanks!

@d4cl00 it maybe that the batteries are charging but the battery terminals are not making contact with the controller terminals. Batteries can be of different heights and battery terminals can also be of different heights.

Thanks @oculusness guess that's a trip to the supermarket. What a weird problem. Will keep you posted.

@d4cl00  as mentioned in the other thread, a small amount of aluminium foil rolled into a ball and flattened to fit into the controller positive terminal 'cup' hopefully should make a decent connection.

Hi! I have tried this extensively and with both controllers to no avail. I can't seem to pin it down to the exact malfunction. I will connect with Meta support again.

  • No indication of charging happening with controllers on dock (also no indicators when wearing the headset, or looking at the Meta Horizon app).
  • Orange light when charging the controllers using the dock. At some point they turn green, which suggests a '100% full' state.
  • No sound chime when placing the controllers on the charge dock.
  • Controllers equipped with regular AA batteries works just fine; all good there.
  • Pressing the tiny hole in the batteries for 15 seconds (which should 'reset' them) also doesn't result in a resolution.
  • Aluminium foil has no effect (and is extremely fiddly; to me not a solution that should be offered to customers).
