Quest 3 link cable keeps disconnecting

witorwitor

I just got my new Quest 3 3 days ago. When I connected it through Oculus link app and a genuine Oculus link cable to my PC the connection dropped almost immediately. After reconnecting I noticed that even the slightest movement of the plug of the link cable (while it is plugged in) results in a disconnection. This makes connecting to a PC with a link cable practically unusable as almost every time I move I get disconnected.

I want to add that there is nothing wrong with the cable. I use the same cable to connect to my old Quest 2 and my link connection is absolutely solid. Have I been just very unlucky or is there a design flaw or fault of the USB port on the Quest 3 headset?

I had a chat via live support. I am now expecting an email from the support. I guess I will need to wait to see what happens next...

First, make sure you are using a good-quality cable. I use a genuine Oculus link cable, but I still got disconnections.

This is what I did to fix it: I got myself an adapter. Link cable fits tighter into the adapter than if directly plugged in into the headset. The adapter also plugs tighter into the headset. I also designed and 3d printed a clip that firmly holds the cable so the plug does not move at all when I move my head.IMG_20240112_214539134.jpg

Have you had any resolution with this? I think I am having a similar issue as Ill be in PCVR and it seems to crash in headset but the game on my PC doesnt crash. I have to disconnect the link and reconnect it and restart the game

I don't think your issue is similar to mine. My problem was that the connection between the cable plug and USB port on Quest 3 was quite loose and my cable kept getting disconnected. I solved this by using a small USB C to USB C adaptor which seems to give me a firmer connection. I also 3d printed a clip that holds my cable in place so there is no movement at the cable-quest connection. It is just a shame that the design of the Quest 3 USB port is so bad that the headset can not be used as a PC VR headset without users engineering their way of securing the physical connection. About 30 minutes of tinkering with CAD software and about 15 minutes of 3d printing solved what Oculus designers could not properly design.

its a brand new charger but thats not the main issue even with the cord not plugged in im having all the other issues

I received my quest 3 on 20 January. I typically play Digital Combat Simulator or Big Screen Beta. I had no issues for about two weeks before I had to go away for work training. I came back and went to watch a show with friends and it disconnected twice over a two hour period. The disconnects happened early on so about 45min in of 2 hours total. When I play DCS I can play roughly about a 30-45min before it crashes/disconnects. When this happens I have to hit the oculus button on the controller and disconnect the link and then close the game on my PC and restart it. So its still technically connected but nothing works anymore. I have used Velcro to stabilize the link and it still happened. I also used my quest 2 without issues. I am not sure what to do at this point.
