Quest 3 night tracking issue

So I tried just about everything to use the oculus 3 at night, in the dark and the only thing that works is the look and click with the volume button. The weird thing is, if I launch virtual desktop all of a sudden I can use the remotes even in the dark. The moment I leave though, all tracking is lost. I can even play games in VR with zero issues while in virtual desktop. Am I missing something here?

Hey there, @slimslide! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Making sure that your device tracking is calibrated correctly is a big part of making your VR experience as smooth as possible. While playing at night is not generally an issue, having adequate lighting is very important to ensure your tracking cameras are working properly. We would also like to verify if you are experiencing this issue during the day or if tracking is lost while using other apps besides the virtual desktop. Do let us know, and we look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

When in the oculus ui (outside of any apps), as well as any app besides virtual desktop, I completely lose remote and hand tracking unless I disable head tracking when too dark. For some reason, once I launch virtual desktop (the paid app) it requires that I turn back on head tracking and once in the app the remote tracking starts working again regardless of the amount of light available. It's seems that if it's too dark in a room and the oculus 3 looses hand tracking it also disabled remote tracking, whereas the virtual desktop app has bypassed that limitation while still being able to track head movement while in steamVR regardless of light available.

Hey there, @slimslide. We see you are still struggling to use your Quest 3 at night. Here is an article that can help you with your issues. As a reminder, we recommend you play in a properly light area without too much light conflict.

The point that I'm trying to make is somehow virtual desktop has solved an issue that meta has not: remote and head tracking at night. I'm not sure why it's an issue while not in the app, but I now basically turn on my occulus and only use the virtual desktop app since I can still play VR games no matter how dark it is within it. I'd play more outside of the app if that tracking issue could get resolved since I only get to play at night when my family finally goes to sleep and I don't want to disturb them with the lights on. Somehow that app also has better rote desktop functionality than the built in meta remote desktop and air link as well. Either way, I just wanted to point out how you could make occulus better by seeing how an app has fixed the biggest issues I have with it.

Hello @slimslide. We understand how not being able to play your Quest 3 at times can create an inconvenience. We do take your concerns to heart and would like to do everything we can to make your experience better. Currently, your headset only allows you to use it in a space that has adequate lighting. Please reference the Meta website here in the future for updates and advancements on your issue.

We hope this was insightful and offered you the best support possible. Hope to talk to you soon.
