As the title says, there were no issues after selecting the wired connection (and using the proper Meta USB-3 cable!) - but after putting on the headset for a first look around - all I get is a "Choose how to connect to Wi-Fi" video, with a blue "Continue" on the lower-right corner. It's already connected to the PC via the USB-3 cable! I don't want to connect via a cellphone that I don't own. (sigh)
I could really use some help in this please. Age is no excuse, I know, but being 79 is no fun sometimes, and this experience is daunting. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Paul_J3 🙂
it's only for the set up, after that you don't need a phone to use the headset.
So, if you have somebody nearby with a mobile phone....ask if you can use it.
You can delete the mobile app from that phone after the set up, so nothing from your account is left on that phone.
Books are great......but don't miss the experience of being in vr.😁

Well, replying to my own post, but it might just save someone from pulling their hair out - I talked/chatted with meta support this afternoon - and - maybe I'm just dumb or plain stupid, but I discovered that I MUST have a cellphone to pair the headset to the app BEFORE I can connect to my PC. So - after buying a headstrap-battery pack, a pair of gloves for the paddles, two aftermarket USB-3 cables that didn't work, and then the Meta cable that did work - I now find that I need a cellphone to connect to FIRST.
I think I'm going back to just reading books for something to do. . . . . .

I have a smartphone and it still won't let me get connected.
