Quest 3 passthrough issues (quality/ghosting)

Like many others reported is Quest 3 passthrough no near to what is shown in promotion video and in review videos on Youtube. I have no clue how the captured image can be much much better quality than what is visible in the Quest 3 itself... 

Anyways... yesterday I noticed a strange ghosting effect when moving my hands in passthrough and today I tried again and it looks like watching a 25 fps video with bad interpolation to 30 fps, showing 'ghosts' of my hands from some frames ago.

It is a cloudy day today but I tested the passthrough at the window to see if better natural light would change anything, but no. Then I turned on all the lights and still no improvement. 

Passthrough with bad quality and ghosting is absolutely pointless.

 

Anyone else noticed something like that?

Well, officially it is a repair shop but I am pretty sure they won't do much more than verifying the claims by customers are valid and contact the vendor for repair or replacement.

Saying Quest 3 is being x-times better than something I don't know sounds impressive but does not tell me anything. I can just say the passthrough quality was like my mobile phone 10 years ago, which was btw said by several Quest 3 users. (interestingly all recodings shown in review look more like a 4k 60fps HDR camera lol).

Yes, I did a restart and a factory reset but nothing helped with any of my problems. 

Anyways, I don't have a Quest 3 anymore and very likely won't in future.

I missed the timeline to replace the Quest 3 so I gave it to the shop for repairment. Just recently I got the information they could not repair it (the shop could not tell me what their repair department did or tried) and I get my money back. So in the end the passthrough issues won't bother me anymore.

The Quest 3 passthrough quality should be 10x the quality of the Quest 2, and 4x the quality of the Pro, so it's definitely disheartening to hear how you're having issues experiencing it to its full glory. While we aren't sure which shop you're talking about exactly, it's worth noting that we don't have any repair shops that we endorse nor support.

 

We recommend trying to clean your lenses and passthrough cameras following our best practices guide here! Still no dice? Try performing a hard reboot.

 

To perform a Hard Reboot:

  1. Turn off your headset.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Boot Device and press the power button.
  4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If the passthrough quality still persists, you can also try factory resetting the headset itself. This erases everything off your headset and returns it to the software state that it was in when you first took it out of the box. Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games, and content from the headset—not the accounts. Be sure to enable Cloud Backup, to store any saved app data to the cloud!

Yes, passthrough it looks really bad.  All wiggling and warping, like I'm inside an aquarium.  I just got a Quest 3S and it looks MUCH better despite it's supposed to be the lower end model.
