Quest 3 - "Boundary not found" suddenly

MortsFam
Explorer

Up until 2 days ago our Quest 3 had zero issues with boundary/room tracking.  It has been in the same room for months and has been used almost daily without issue.  Suddenly on Monday of this week my son showed me that whenever he tries to open any game it says "Boundary not found".  It hit "Set up boundary", but it just lags for a couple seconds, then says "Unable to create boundary".

I have tried clearing boundary history/rebooting when done, factory resetting the headset.......nothing works.  Factory reset solved the issue for 1 day, but then the next day it was right back to the same error again.  We literally can't open a single game that requires boundaries because of this.  The headset currently shows v69.0 for the software.

Please help.

Hey Rewii, I just got a chance to check and the firmware version is 69.0.0.412.  It fixed the boundary issues for me.

Catrox - i just updated to 69.0.0.412 using the Test update, and it solved my issue also!  Thanks!

Hello, i've got the exact same issue since yesterday, reset multiple times and it works between 15min to 1h and do it again!! I think this is a software problem because on fresh install it work but not long!!

Hello there, @MortsFam and @Rewii!! We'd like to make sure both of your experiences are running smoothly in VR, so we popped in to recommend some troubleshooting steps for improving your headset tracking. Please note that many of these steps pertain to your play environment, as it's imperative the headset's cameras are able to clearly see to track your movement. Please go through the following points then get back to us when you both get a chance:

  • Make sure your playing environment is not too bright, oversaturating the camera or has any interfering lights (like Christmas lights, LED strips, direct sun exposure, etc.)
  • Make sure your playing environment isn't too dark, and therefore preventing the tracking cameras from working properly due to lack of lighting.
  • Check that your playing environment doesn't contain reflective surfaces, which can interfere with the tracking cameras (like mirrors, television screens, window reflections, glasses, polished marbles, etc.)
  • Make sure your playing environment has enough contrast between the objects and textures composing it (like  varnished wood furniture and parquet floors, all white walls, etc.)
  • Clean the tracking cameras on your headset using the approved methods listed here.

Hello, for my part, I lose the limits and the possibility of creating one randomly, in the same lighting conditions, after a reset it can last between 15 min and 1h30. Hand tracking works very well. A message tells me "limit not found please create a new limit" and when I click on create a new limit the scan does not start and returns to the previous message! it does this in a loop, as if the module that manages the room scan could not start correctly. It also happens after several inconclusive attempts (therefore in passthrough) to still have the background sound of when you create a limit but no longer being in the limit creation module! I really think it's a software problem because everything works very well after a factory reset... But it's not stable at all...

Thank you for letting us know, @Rewii! In that case, the next step we recommend would be to make sure the tracking on the headset is turned on using these steps:

  1. Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
  2. Select Settings
Select System from the Settings panel
  3. Select Headset Tracking from the left side panel
  4. Make sure Headset Tracking is ticked

Tracking is obviously enabled! On the other hand, I just tested in travel mode and I was able to define a stationary limit and even roomscale!! In travel mode everything works correctly but as soon as I switch back to "normal" mode the limit bug is still present!!! Big progress 🙂

The problem that remains is that in travel mode you cannot configure your environment to use it in mixed reality... which is not a long-term solution!

I am literally in the exact same room/same lighting conditions as I have been, and had no issues until 2 or 3 days ago.  I've tried all solutions that I've listed/found posted elsewhere.  Only a factory reset temporarily works.  Thinking your software is the issue (just like the "liquid in charging port" one from months ago me/others dealt with).
