Quest 3 "Headset tracking lost" error

Context:

I use my headset primarily for dancing and beat saber, so the headset gets quite sweaty which I suspect is the issue. This is my third meta quest 3 to have this same issue. The first headset I owned for ~3 months until I had the issue, the headset was purchased from micro center. The second headset was functional for ~36 hours before having the issue, this headset was also purchased from micro center. The third (current) headset I have had for 65 days, it was purchased on amazon and arrived June 5th 2024.

The issue:
Today I was dancing and while there was no large movements to the headset, I was facing away from any reflective objects, although I do have a large television in my play space (the television was covered when my second quest 3 broke) I was facing towards a wall with one led light bulb on with two incandescent lamps and an incandescent overhead light fixture. The headset screen did not go blank, it continued to display the game behind it, along with an error message saying "Headset tracking lost". The following image was taken immediately after tracking was lost, the game is still displaying behind the error message:The error message right after happening, the game is still being displayedThe error message right after happening, the game is still being displayed

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps on all three headsets:

  • cleaning the lenses with a microfiber cloth
  • power cycling the headset
  • power cycling the headset with controllers disconnected (batteries removed)
  • "hard rebooting" (holding the power button for 30 seconds (timed with a stop watch, starting with the headset powered on as well as starting with the headset powered off)
  • booting through the boot menu (holding power and volume down and selecting "boot device" using the power button)
  • factory resetting the headset

I have done all of these steps in 3 different play spaces containing the following.

  1. One with a television, 3 computer monitors, one led lamp, 2 incandescent lamps, an incandescent light fixture.
  2. One with one computer monitor and a lamp (not sure if it was incandescent or led)
  3. one with one television and a lamp

My second headset was left un-touched for a few days (not sure how long) then the tracking was functional again for roughly 4 hours then was never functional again. I vaguely remember clearing the boundary history during this time however I can not say with 100% certainty that I did.

Not sure if I'm ever going to find a solution to this but I thought I'd make a post anyways because I'm out of my return window anyways.

Other interesting posts:

the same issue but solved when something is far enough from the forehead sensor?

This thread seems to be the same issue which would make sense as there may be sweat in the headset.

however it makes no sense that a device advertised alongside games such as beat saber breaks if the user sweats. I will be sending a direct message once requested to @MetaQuestSupport as directed in many other threads. I will update this thread with whatever solution I find if any.

Edit [8/14/24]: I sent a direct message to MetaQuestSupport (8/9) and was redirected to their support email undar a  "Social Media Transfer" I was then asked for my country, device serial number, box serial number, shipping address, phone number, and Receipt/Invoice (including: item, retailer, price, and date) or Online Meta Store Order number. (8/10) When replying to that email I received a response from the email MAILER-DAEMON@pps.reinject stating there was an error and some email address had a permanent fatal error, (8/12) I have not had a response from meta as of today (8/14) I have re-sent the email containing the requested information twice, once forwarding the original email that returned an error (8/12), and once directly responding to the email requesting my information (8/14)

My headset has been approved for an RMA, as is the conclusion to most of these threads. All I can do is hope I don't have the same issue a fourth time...
