Quest 3 stuck in boot loop after V67 update

My headset (Meta Quest 3) worked fine this morning. This evening when I turned it on, it didn't say anything, just went black and eventually seemed like it restarted. Then showed a screen where it looked like something was downloading. I assumed an update was happening.

It got stuck in a loop. Figured nothing couldn't do anything else so was just going to factory reset. I couldn't via the app because the headset is not yet started. So I looked up how to manually factory reset the headset. So I hold the power and vol down buttons and select factory reset.

The headset restarts and then it does the download again and gets into the same loop.

I tried to reply to this thread but it's locked:

https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Known-Issue-Quest-Headset-Users-unable-to-update-to-t...

After reading that I then saw it said don't factory reset. I'm kind of pissed. Worked fine this morning and I charge my set after my morning workout so the battery was full.

That thread was a month ago. Was this a new update today?

What do I do now?

its been days since i looked at this thread but I "fixed" mine luckily it seems by factory resetting the headset and then installing the v67 firmware. it sucks that i had to lose all my game progress to do so, thanks a lot meta!

How do you install specific software? I've lost count of how many times I've done a factory reset and it has done nothing  but go back into a loop.

Do you factory reset,  then power it off via the boot menu,  and then sideload? When I tried to sideload earlier, It still tried to download afterwards.

I cannot do this because I cannot click advanced  settings under headset settings because headset settings is greyed out, because there is no headset  connected, because it's stuck in a loop. Not sure what to do. I submitted a bug, maybe it has some info about my headset?

I tried  again today. Factory reset followed by sideload. Still have a paperweight. I can't opt in to PTC's V68 build as suggested by the instructions to do so because I cannot access headset settings via the app.  They advised they were closing my ticket - the other side of the house that just wants me to return it or something. Sooooo...what am I supposed to do now?

I don't want to but I  guess I'm going to send it back. Can't get past loop after trying everything several times Other  than opting  into that thing mentioned earlier because I can't access the option via the app. 😡

Hi @TheRealKrom 🙂

I don't know, if this will solve your issue....

But you can opt into PTC from mobile app.

Go to -menu - devices - headset settings - more settings(the gear) - here can you toggle on/off PTC.

Wish you luck🤞

I wanted to try this, but I couldn’t because my headset is not connected anymore to the app so headset settings is grayed out. So I’m kind of stuck. I was hoping the sideload would have a newer version or something by now. I tried another factory reset today with no luck. I don’t understand why I fix has not been pushed up. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

@BerlingoManDK @PrfsJay I'm glad both of your headsets seem to be working now after performing the factory reset, despite the loss of game progress! If it helps in the future, I recommend enabling Cloud Backup if it isn't enabled already. Not all game data will be backed up, however, since its up to app developers to enable the feature—along with what game data is backed up to the cloud. If Cloud Backup was enabled previously, it's possible this may be what happened after recovering your headset from the factory reset.

@TheRealKrom Thanks for keeping me looped into your situation. If you're unable to enter the PTC due to not being able to access Headset Settings within the mobile app, and the factory reset didn't end up working out, there would only be 2 other options you'd be able to try.

  1. Validate your warranty options with @MetaQuestSupport for a potential replacement.
  2. Wait for the full release of V68, then attempt to update using the official Software Update Tool.

I'd imagine that if you did end up qualifying for a replacement, it would be much faster to go through that process than to wait for the live release of V68—given that the PTC just started rolling out for that build.

Technology, at a certain level of sophistication, is indistinguishable from magic. - some wise guy or something probably

Sorry @TheRealKrom , my bad‌🙄‌....i haven't read the whole thread and didn't know you can't access the settings anymore.
I thought you mean it's not possible at all.....sorry for the silly suggestion

Ok. Thanks for verification of anything else to try. Luckily my warranty is up in November…but pretty sure I got extended warranty. Never know with electronics. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
