Quest Cash error

My kid (teen account) wants to make an in-app purchase. Rather than giving him access to my PayPal or credit cards, a Quest Cash request seemed like it should work decently! Except it doesn't work at all.

Spent 40 minutes with a support agent who just closed the chat without resolution 💀 Help me, forums, you're my only hope. Oh, just emailed to say I should purchase a gift card instead.

Frankly, I want to use the credit I already have on my account before I put any more money into this device. That's probably what's messing this up, isn't it? My credit is now showing as Quest Cash, too, but it doesn't allow me to send Quest Cash, either by request or sending direct.

I don't really mind making him wait until the bugs are worked out on this feature so I can properly send the credit I am never going to spend. I did say outright it probably won't work as his isn't the primary account, mine is.

I'd be more willing to have him use my account than to spend anything further here, and I very much dislike that idea.

I do like the idea of being able to send the kids Quest Cash. It just needs to be minimally functional here. 😭

Hi there, @evix0! We definitely understand wanting to keep all your payments secure for your son's account, and we'd love to provide some insight here! To start, we do want to let you know that Quest Cash is non-transferrable and cannot be added to a different account's Wallet once it has already been purchased. Check out this link for more information on that! The best way to utilize that for your child's account is to gift it to them or have them request it from their account. Here are the steps to do both:

To buy Quest Cash as a gift for a different account:

  1. Open the Meta Quest mobile app.
  2. Tap Menu, then tap Wallet.
  3. Tap Send cash.
  4. Select the person you want to purchase Quest Cash for.
  5. Fill out the required fields and tap Continue.
  6. Tap Confirm to complete the purchase.
  7. Tap Done.

To send a request to buy Quest Cash from your child's account:

  1. Open the Meta Quest mobile app.
  2. Tap Menu, then tap Wallet.
  3. Tap Request cash.
  4. Select the person you want to request Quest Cash from.
  5. Fill out the required fields and tap Send request.
  6. Tap Done.
  7. The Meta Quest app will show a notification if the person you requested Quest Cash from accepts or declines your request.

If you purchased that Quest Cash amount on your own account, this may explain the issues you're running into. We highly suggest utilizing the App Gifting feature to purchase games/apps for your son using the credits already on your account. Let us know if this clears everything up for you or if there is anything else at all we can look into. We're happy to help!

Thanks for your quick response!

I first had him request from his account. I have the notification, but clicking continue brings up the error as seen in the screenshot above. I have also tried sending it directly, where I get to the how much to send selection and hit continue only to see the same error.

Per support's advice I have added a second payment method, which still results in the same problem. I'm not even getting to a page where I would select a payment method as the error comes up before that, I guess?

I haven't, and won't, add any cash to my account. I did have a credit which now seems to show as Quest Cash. I can understand that wouldn't be transferable. I do wonder if it is somehow trying to use the credit before moving onto the payment options, which I presume would give such a non-descript error. Either that or it's because this is not USD currency.

Not a problem, and thanks for the clarification as well, @evix0! Quest Cash should be available in CAD, so we'd love to work further with you on this to see what might be causing that error. If you haven't already, we suggest attempting to send that from a different device while connected to a different network altogether. Aside from that, we'll need to gather some information to take a look into that support ticket you mentioned and your account, so shoot us a PM when you get the chance! Simply select our name to get to our profile page, or click here. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us. Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message. We look forward to hearing back from you!

Hello I'm having a similar problem. It's that I can't spend any quest cash I bought. Whenever I try to buy something I press confirm and it says this feature is not available to you. I wasted $25 on quest cash do you know how to fix this.

Hi again, I have a follow-up question here. It does look like I should be able to send Quest Cash now, although I haven't yet.

My kid wants to request cash again, but he's saying he cannot because he already did- not certain the exact message he is seeing. Of course, the app notification for his previous request is LONG gone! I can still probably send it directly, but I am wondering if there's a page I can go to on the app to see older requests, too.

Thanks again!

Edit: wow, spoke too soon. When I had checked the other day, I was able to pull up the payment options screen in sending Quest Cash and assumed it was working. Now selecting someone to send to crashes the app. Uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I guess it is still not working!  😞

Thanks for getting back to us with those updates, @evix0! We definitely get where you're coming from here, and we'd like to do all we can to get Quest Cash back up and running for you! To be absolutely certain we've covered all bases here, we have just a few more troubleshooting steps we'd like you to try out for us. Whenever you get the chance, please go through the following and let us know if anything changes:

  • Make sure your headset and Meta Quest mobile app are completely up to date.
  • Try removing the payment methods from your account, then adding them back.
  • Make sure to disable any VPN software that may be interfering with our servers.
  • Try sending that Quest Cash from a different device altogether.

If you're still running into this error message, we'd appreciate you reporting this problem from the Meta Quest mobile app directly. Thank you for your time and effort so far!

Hi again, thanks for the prompt reply.

Updated the headset, no change.

My app is up to date v267 auto-updated 2 days ago. Suspecting that was what broke it, I tried on my son's device as he is on v266. Still crashes, although as his device is slower it does show the "how much" screen briefly before it closes while mine doesn't get that far. With further testing we have found both devices crash the app when trying to either send or request, but does not crash when selecting the purchase option.

He can see his previous Quest Cash request in his balance details, but I am still not seeing anywhere I can respond to this request on my end, and he cannot cancel it, either. Assuming this would crash the app, anyway, but ultimately I would like for him to be able to request again, which he is able to do from within a game on the headset. I am not seeing anywhere I can send Quest Cash from the headset, if that's an option or if this is a phone app only thing? I have sent a bug report from the app.
