Quest Controllers seeming to disconnect when I keep my arms down by my side for too long??

Hey so I got my quest 3 a few days ago and I noticed that when I keep my arms down at my sides for too long it seems like the controller either disconnects or loses tracking , this happens in game or in the home environment. So here is an example , I am holding my quest controllers in both hands, my left arm is down at my side in a relaxed position, and my right arm I am using to go through menus or to browse the store etc. Then after like 10 seconds the left controller seems to shut off and I get the notification pop up saying something about the left controller “raise to wake it” or something like that. Is this loss of tracking? Is this due to the lack of tracking rings like on the quest 2 controllers? I mention the quest 2 controllers because this was never an issue with the quest 2 controller with their tracking rings… thanks in advance.

The controllers are primarily tracked optically, using the cameras on the front of the headset. There is a degree of inertial tracking within the controller itself but that relies on movement and isn't very accurate so if the controller is motionless and out-of-sight of all the tracking cameras for more than a short time, the headset will decide it no longer knows where it is and display the tracking error.

Okay so if I buy the quest pro controllers, will the fact that they have cameras on them, solve this issue?

Also how much of an FOV do the cameras on the quest 3 have?? Like to what degree do they have to be in front of it? Because with my quest two I would always have my inactive arm down by my side comfortably

In theory, the Pro controllers shouldn't suffer from this as they are self-tracking. My own experience of them on my Quest 3 was less-than-stellar so they were returned but yours may be better.

Hey there! I was looking through the forums and saw this thread, just like @user_901925786032222  provided there is a certain view where the tracking on the controllers for Meta Quest 2 and 3 will loose tracking. I found this picture from a community I know. They made a reference on the headset for controller tracking view.

I hope this kind of helps you visualize the "tracking limit"!

We are all mad here.

Yes I understand that but it’s something that only happens with my left controller, I contacted meta support and I am going to get a replacement controller under warranty

The Quest 3 controllers shouldn't give any error when just the tracking is lost, they will just lock in the last known position until the cameras spot them again.

If it's warning you just about the left controller, that sounds like the controller is faulty.

Yeah I get a notification banner pop up saying that my controller has reconnected and to “wake it up” or something along those lines, I have contacted customer support and they are processing a warranty replacement
