Quest Link Freezing and general device problem

Blitzo_64

IMG_7529.jpegMy PCVR has suddenly stopped working because every time I try and load it up, it freezes and looks like the second picture. My oculus app on pc tells me it’s a general device issue but I don’t know what it is. I’ve tried restarting my computer and headset, reinstalling the app, and even factory reset my headset. My quest link never worked properly as it’s always kicked me out of the link suddenly, has visual issues covering half the screen in purple, or in general just not working unless I restarted both systems before playing. But for the last few months it’s been working fine until now, where it’s freezing right after I load up Quest link and saying there’s something wrong with the headset.

Is there any concrete solution to this issue?

Hey there! We hate to hear that you are having issues with your PCVR freezing and display issues, and we know how that can hinder your gaming experience. No worries, let's get this resolved as fast as possible. If you could please provide the following:

  1. Confirm to see if your PC is compatible.
  2. Confirm how the headset is connected, making sure that the headset and primary monitor are connected to the same video card.
    • Is an adapter or cable extender being used? If possible, remove any adapters from the headset. If your PC does not have enough of the needed ports, an adapter is needed. It is recommended to use the adapter with the monitor instead of the headset whenever possible.
  3. Disconnect the headset cable from the PC and from the headset and inspect it for bent pins, frays, twists, and kinks.
  4. Check to see if your graphics drivers are updated.

Looking forward to your response!

My graphics card falls under 3060 series and my CPU is i5-11400 so I believe that checks out too.

I have two cables that are both standard USB-C to USB-C that plug directly into the USB-C port on my PC. But I don’t really believe it could be the cables because the PCVR has always had visual and stability issues regardless of the cable I use even when they were brand new

and I check every day for new updates on my pc, graphics card, and my headset and still nothing changes when I get a new update.

even when I got this PC brand new, one of the first things I did was install the oculus app to try PCVR since my old pc didn’t have a dedicated usb-c port. But still the issues were there

Thank you for informing us of all of this, and we know how this issue can be difficult for you.

Now knowing that you've been having some issues with the Quest Link for awhile, can you let us know if the same issue arises when attempting to use Air Link?

In the meantime, here are some more troubleshooting steps for you to try.

  • For Selective Suspending:
    1. Right-click the Start menu icon
    2. Click Power Options
    3. Click Additional Power Settings
    4. Click Change plan settings
    5. Click Change Advanced Power Settings
    6. Find USB Settings
    7. Make sure that Selective Suspend Setting is set to Disabled

  • Confirm the your USB power settings:
    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Locate your USB ports - Expand the universal serial bus controller section at the bottom of the list.
    3. Look for the "USB 3.0/3.1/3.10 eXtensible" items.
    4. Right click and select Properties.
    5. Navigate to Power Management.
    6. Ensure that the options to save power are deselected.
    7. Not all of these listings will have these Power Management options, so we can skip ones that don't, and move onto the next item in the list until completed.

  • Link Connection:
    1. Open the Meta Quest PC app on your computer.
    2. Turn on your Quest 2 or Quest.
    3. Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3.0 port on your PC, and then plug the other end into your headset.
    4. A message displays in VR prompting you to Allow access to data. Select Deny. If you mistakenly 'Allow' the prompt, you must unplug your USB cable from the Quest and plug it back in.
    5. When prompted to Enable Meta Quest Link, select Enable to begin remote rendering using Meta Quest Link.

We hope to hear from you soon!

My air link doesn’t work because my internet is not strong enough to support it. I tried the power settings you suggested and I pressed deny on the pop up on the headset and my quest link worked for a few minutes and then it froze again.
The issue I’ve always run into on top of the recent freezing, and “general device problem” is the headset always disconnecting. My windows computer plays a sound whenever any device is connected and disconnected from the PC. The headset will occasionally connect and disconnect rapidly with any cable I use prompting notifications such as “we can’t find your headset. Please connect your headsef. I connected this to the fact that my quest link would always kick me out with the pop up saying I had unplugged the headset and that I need to plug it back in to use quest link again. And without so much as moving a muscle, the “enable quest link” pop up shows up again as if I unplugged and replaced the cable. As shown with the link listed below
Video example of headset disconnecting abruptly

After all other attempts, cables, and even a factory reset, I am left to believe I have a defective headset if not anything else

We know having a PC that disconnects like this can affect your ability to play in PCVR, and we hope to figure out this problem with you!

So we can isolate the issue, can you let us know if the same disconnects happens if you try connecting other things via USB, perhaps like your phone?

I tried the same USB-C cable into my mouse, keyboard and my PS5 controller and there was no issue. And I even tried my headset with the cords used for my mouse and keyboard and those still led to the same disconnecting issue

Out of curiosity can you also let us know of the following:

  • Is this a laptop or desktop?
  • What software version is your headset updated to?
  • Does your phone stay connected too?

If anything, we might need to look into other options for you if that is okay.

We hope to hear from you soon about the requested information above!

I have a desktop

my headset is version 55.0.0.149.713.495424200

And my phone has a working connection. It’s an iPhone so it uses a lighting connection that allows data transfer

Okay, thank you once so much for your patience with us.

Seeing as this issue is outside the scope of our troubleshooting, we might need to look into other options for you.
