Quest Link PC Installer Crashing on Windows 11

DomCavalieri
Explorer

I recently purchased the Meta Quest 3, and I'm running the latest version of Windows 11 Pro with all drivers updated while working on a VR game. Yesterday, without making any changes to the system or Oculus, I connected the USB cable as usual. Suddenly, the Quest Link app started to open and close repeatedly on the system. I thought it might be a problem with the app, possibly something corrupted, so I uninstalled it and downloaded the latest version of Meta Quest Link from the Meta website. To my surprise, the installer crashes every time during installation—sometimes it doesn’t even finish the download and gets to the point of asking to restart the PC. Checking the Windows logs, there are multiple AppCrash_OculusSetup.exe entries. I've tried disabling the firewall, deleting the AppData files, downloading again, clearing the cache, scanning Windows for potential errors, updating drivers, and nothing has worked—the Setup always closes without any warning. The Meta Quest Developer Hub and USB connection work perfectly, but I can’t debug the game during development without Meta Quest Link.

I’ve also looked into the installation log file (AppData\Local\Oculus\OculusSetup.log) and found the following:

[Debug] [18/08/2024 12:53:29] Starting up _OculusSetup v1.16.0.0. This log seems to indicate a missing method exception in the installer, which might be causing the crash, along with an unauthorized access exception when trying to delete a temporary file. These could be important issues to address for a stable installation.

I already sent a message explaining and detailing the problem with the log, and I even received an email saying that ticket #07283962 was created and that I should wait for a response. I’m probably one of those isolated and irrelevant cases for support. I'm almost certain it’s an incompatibility issue with the current version of my RTX 4070 (560.81) or Windows (10.0.22631 Build 22631), or at worst, a problem with the Core i9 13900KF processor, which has also been causing crashes in other applications. I’m tired of these issues; the Meta Quest 2 also had constant connection problems with the system. Anyway, I’ll leave the Meta Quest 3 in the drawer for now and wait a few months. Maybe Meta will manage to fix it in a week or so before it starts having issues again."

But I haven't received a response, there hasn't been an update to OculusSetup.exe, and I couldn't find a page where I can track case #07283962 to see if someone is looking into it.
