Quest Link app not downloading and then crashing

Blue1Fire
Honored Guest

I've been having a series of problems with the quest link app. when i try to install the app on my pc, it stops loading after about 50-75% so i have to stop the install and delete the app and re install it again and then it finally installs. after i get into to the app i go into a game its fine up until about 15sec to 15 min after joining, i crash. I've deleted and reinstalled the app 4 times partly because whenever i close the app after the first time, it never reopens and just sits on the small loading screen forever. if anyone has a good way of using steam vr with a quest 3 without the quest link app involvement at all, that would be much appreciated.

Hi There!

Thank you for reaching out on the Meta Support Community Forum.

We want to get this issue fixed for you as quickly as possible, and get you back up and running again!

It sounds like there may be a file that is causing the problem that hasn't been fully removed by the uninstaller.

We recommend trying a full manual uninstall, before reinstalling again.

Manual Uninstall.

This is a method for uninstalling the Link PC VR app to ensure all relevant data has been removed from the computer. The normal uninstaller may not remove a file that is causing problems, so this is like a "factory reset" for the Link PC VR app.

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode
  5. Uninstall the Link PC VR app using the Control Panel
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
    • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
      1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
      2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
      3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
      4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Link PC VR app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Let us know if you still have any issues after performing the uninstall, and we can look at some other solutions.

Thanks very much!
