Quest Pro controllers jump around and lose tracking

Saberpeep

So I've been having controller issues with my Quest Pro the entire time I've had it. My experience with the controller tracking is just terrible. One or the other controller frequently jumps around, often a foot or so to the left or right and then  just sticks there with that offset. The strangest thing is that it's not like it lost tracking because it still moves and rotates perfectly fine, it's just a foot away from where me hand actually is. The only way to fix this is to just cover the controller's cameras for 3 or so seconds until it loses tracking, and then when I uncover it immediately finds it's way back to where it is supposed to be. It's so strange because you'd think that if it was some kind of normal tracking issue it wouldn't be able to find it's way back right away after being covered, and you'd think it wouldnt still move and rotate fine while it thinks it's a foot from where it should be.

On top of this a controller will sometimes just entirely disassapear, I know it hasn't lost connection because the buttons and inputs still work, it just disappears. The only way I've found to fix this is to hold the menu button down until it restarts. This is especially annoying because the menu button still works during this and recenters my view or whatever from having to hold the button down.

This has become extremely frustrating and I feel like the issues have gotten much much worse after the last two firmware updates. It makes any game basically impossible to play, or at least not without having to stop often and reset my controllers.

Now before you ask, I've tried so many things to try to remedy these issues. I've tried more room light, I've tried less room light, I've tried covering all shiny surfaces (because I saw some other threads speculating about that), I've tried cleaning the cameras, I've tried clearing the boundary history, I've tried restarting the controllers by holding the menu buttons, I've tried resetting the controllers by holding menu & A (or menu & X), I've even tried covering each camera sequentially with a piece of tape in case some kind of scratch or dirty lens was causing a lens flare or something. I've even tried printing out and placing fiducials around my play space in hopes that out would give the controllers something to see as easily visible anchor points. Nothing I do has any effect. Sometimes it seems like something I do has an effect for a bit but then it goes right back to its usual nonsense.

Does anyone have any ideas that I haven't already tried? It's there anything I can do? It's anyone else having these issues? It's so frustrating, I can barely even play a social game like VRChat because my controllers are constantly malfunctioning.

I've been having the same issues with these garbage controllers offseting themselves and jumping around, even when they track 100% fine... but in the wrong place! It's so infuriating.

I wish i could just use the Quest 2 controllers on my quest pro, because the rings made them track 100% dead on accurate every single time. Never thought the overengineered controllers of a "Pro" headset would bring me so much annoyance.

I have found that its not just software preventing us from using controllers from other headsets. Because the Pro's cost-cutting measure of overlaying the color camera over the black and white reprojection, the black and white cameras on the pro actually seem to have infrared filters. So the headset wouldn't be able to see the lights on standard quest controllers.

I've had the exact same issues in the past few weeks with my pro controllers paired to the Q2. I also do believe the symptoms have gotten worse with recent updates. Something I did notice the other day is that both controllers will loose tracking completely if both of the controllers touch. This makes me believe that the controllers may have interference or connection issues? It's really frustrating how often the controllers desync or lose tracking.

Interesting, I haven't tried experimenting with proximity to each other, perhaps I should try wrapping them in tin foil to reduce the signal lol. I have found that the pro controllers use Wi-Fi direct to connect to the headset. It seems to always use 2.4ghz channel 11 even if there are already other devices on that channel. Initially it was almost completely blocking my slime trackers' signal until I went in and made sure none of my access points were using ch11.

Hey @Shironyaaaa! We noticed you were having some trouble with tracking while using your Quest Pro controllers on the Quest 2 headset. No need to worry; we're here to help! We'd love to take a deeper look into this. Please provide the following details below:

  • What color is the LED light on the pro controllers when they are turned on?
  • Are the tracking cameras on the controllers clean?
  • Is there any damage done to the controllers?

We look forward to hearing back from you!

  • The LEDs are blue when they are working normally, but then turn a solid white when they have connection issues/
  • I believe the cameras are generally clean as they tend to track cleanly when there are no connection issues. I also have tried wiping the cameras with a lens cloth a few times to see if anything would change but the symptoms remain the same.
  • I don't believe there is major damage to either, but the controllers have fell a few times due to the wrist strap falling off on occasion during play.

There are also some occasions where one controller will be connected and all of the buttons function normally, but the tracking will be stuck in a singular location. This doesn't happen as often compared to the other symptoms listed above.

Having the same issue. Currently playing email tag. Assume it is a firmware issue, but who knows. Using refurbished controllers "Meta" sent me and have only had them about a month. Issue started soon after. Have talked to several people having similar issues.

Whoops, I meant the opposite colors when the controllers are working normally.
