Quest Pro discoonnects from PC both through airlink and USB-C connection after about an hour

Catfishox
Honored Guest

I am playing Infinity Vegas, and I have played long periods of time in the past, but now, my oculus pro just drops the connection whether I am tethered to my pc or using Airlink.

It will just randomly with no warning drop me back into the Home screen on the device, and my computer becomes locked up, like it needs a hard rest to function.

I have never had this problem before, just started within the last month or so.

Hey @Catfishox! There's a lot of awesome graphical enhancements, experiences, and tools that we'd hate for you to miss out on due to some software complications! We'd love to give you a hand!

  • Is this something that only happens with Infinity Vegas, or have you noticed it with any other games and apps as well?
  • Which cable are you using to tether your headset to the PC? Is it the one that came with your headset, or another cable?
  • What's your network setup like when attempting to connect via Air Link?
    • Is your PC connected to your router, modem, air bridge or an extender?
    • Is it connected over Wi-Fi or with an ethernet cable?
    • What frequency is your network connection? (2,4Ghz, 5Ghz, 6Ghz, etc.)
    • How far above the ground is your access point? How far away from the headset is your access point? (In the same room, another room, etc.)

As a general recommendation, we recommend double checking the following!

  1. Ensure your graphics card is up to date.
  2. Ensure your PC app is up to date.
  3. Ensure your Windows 10/11 is updated to the latest version.
  4. Update your headset to the latest version.
  5. Check if any background apps are causing issues during play.

If that doesn't work out, let us know along with that other info, and we'd be happy to continue helping out!

I have now tried two devices, the Quest Pro and a brand new Quest 3.  Same problems both times, Airlink connects, though this time it only lasted about 20 minutes on Airlink before dropping me and sending me back to the home screen.  THe PC app stays in a loop thinking that the game is still being played, though I cannot reconnect.  Same exact results whether the device is airlinked or tethered using a Meta USB cable.

Which cable are you using to tether your headset to the PC?

I am using the Official Meta Cable connected to a 3.2 USB connection.

What's your network setup like when attempting to connect via Air Link?

Network set up is PC tethered to router, router running a 6E  band, headset on that channel, only device on that channel,  The wireless router is about three feet from me, about 4 ft off the ground.

Ensure your graphics card is up to date. Ensure your PC app is up to date. Ensure your Windows 10/11 is updated to the latest version. Update your headset to the latest version. Check if any background apps are causing issues during play.

All PC, GPU and other drivers are up to date.

Hello again @Catfishox, We would love to get you back to enjoying PCVR again. We can imagine how eager you must be to get this resolved and get back in the game! Let's go ahead and start out with some basic troubleshooting. We can begin by trying to repair the Oculus Desktop App. The repair will assess the integrity of the current Oculus Home installation. It will also add missing files or upgrade missing Oculus Home files from the Oculus database.

To run a repair:

  1. Download and run the Oculus Installation Software (meta.com/quest/setup/).
  2. You will see a screen that says "Already Installed.".
  3. Click the "Repair" option, and confirm again on the next screen.

If the repair fails to resolve an issue with the Oculus desktop app, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Feel free to reach out to us anytime, and we can provide further assistance!

Still keeps dropping me.  Whether I am using Oculus Link of Virtual Desktop, it just randomly disconnects from my PC.

Hello again, Thank you so much for trying that repair. We do have a few more troubleshooting steps for you. If you could please try these it would help us get to the bottom of the problem.

Does the system have an antivirus suite that is active? Antivirus software may interrupt or slow down the Oculus software’s ability to access information from Oculus’ servers

Does the system run on a strict firewall/proxy network configuration? Some configurations may prevent the Oculus software from being able to communicate with the Oculus servers.

  • Try checking for settings of the Antivirus software for options to whitelist or add Oculus as a trusted program.
    • Adding the Oculus application to the antivirus software’s whitelist or trusted list should help resolve slow down or issues accessing content without compromising the user’s system integrity.
  • Try another network connection with no restrictions or VPNs.
  • A proxy or VPN could slowdown internet speeds, try disabling both or trying a network that does not have either enabled.
  • Even if the issue does not seem to be a proxy or VPN, trying another network will help determine if the issues are with the original network or its configuration

We look forward to hearing back from you!

Ive tried all of the above and it still crashes.  Lasts about an hour or so and then my whole computer crashes and reboots.

And I do not have an anti-virus suite operating.

Hey again! We hate to hear you still can't enjoy your VR experience. There has been a lot of troubleshooting done, but we are as invested in getting this resolved as you are! Could you please also try these steps?

  • Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.
  • Disconnect your computer from the internet.
  • Backup any necessary content.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode.
  • Uninstall Oculus PC app using the Control Panel.
  • Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
  • C:\Program Files
  • Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
  • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
  • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
  • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
  • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
  • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  • Restart your computer in normal mode.
  • Reconnect your computer to the internet.
  • Install Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website.
  • Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset.

We look forward to hearing back from you!
