Quest Pro tracking lost loop issue SOLVED

Mutant.Fox42
Honored Guest

This post is about the specific issue with the Quest Pro where it gets stuck in an infinite "tracking lost" loop -- the one that specifically keeps flickering, and makes the image feel like it is being constantly torn and streched -- there is some tracking problems other than this in the last batch of updates, but they don't seems to be as severe/breaking as this one. TBF, since I just got my Pro, I was worried that I got a bad unit and was going to have to RMA. But, after doing some A/B and stress testing, I feel confident that this solves the issue. This really has been a community effort, as it was the QP community on both reddit and discord that helped me to find this solution:

I did some QC stress testing on both my QP and Q2, and while there are some tracking/guardian issues affecting both, the specific infinite tracking lost loop that was causing me to factory reset was directly tied to the fit adjustment being turned on.

Here's my testing notes: once I suspected that this was what it was, I turned the feature off, and did not get lost in that particular loop. This morning, I did have an occasion where 6dof tracking was lost, but I wasn't in that glitch-hell loop, and was able to get tracking back just by shaking the controllers. To confirm that it was the fit adjust, I decided to stress test. I turned the feature on, then loosened my headstrap so it would easily keep falling out of adjustment. It was almost immediate that my headset fell into the tracking lost loop. And once again, none of the usual fixes worked, like restarting the headset, shaking, clearing out my boundary, etc.

I was saved from having to do yet another full factory reset by patiently making my way into the settings and turning off the fit adjust setting in display (note: it's that one specific setting, turning off face and eye tracking won't end the loop, and keeping face and eye tracking on won't put you in the loop). After a shake, all was good again. I'm writing this in Immersed on my QP, with no further issues. Hopefully this saves some people the pain of having to do one more factory reset, or thinking that there's a hardware defect with there QP. I'm back to just loving this thing, and can't wait to see what Meta does with this over the year!

My Quest Pro is stuck in a Tracking Lost loop. Cant get to any controls.

Hey there @matbee, we see you are having issues with your Pro controllers. We understand how inconvenient this may be for you, but we're here to assist you all that we can.

For the issues with your controllers, here are a couple of things for you to try:

  1. Make sure the tracking cameras of the controllers are clean. Customers need to use the cleaning cloth provided with the Quest Pro, or a dry, non-abrasive microfiber cloth.
  2. While in VR, hold the controllers at eye level, pointing in front so that the cameras on the controller can see the surroundings.
    1. Move the controller around slowly for the controllers to start tracking.
  3. Go through the Meta Quest app and unpair/pair the controllers.
  4. Restart the controller by holding down the power button (Oculus/menu) for 1 to 2 seconds.
  5. Try waking them up by quickly pressing the Oculus or Menu buttons.
  6. Try pressing and holding the Oculus button for 5 to 10 seconds.
    1. If the controllers re-center, then at least the controller Bluetooth is connected. This means it’s likely the controller is not tracking.
    2. Try rebooting the controller by holding down the Oculus/Menu button until you see the lights change.
  7. If that does not work, manually pair the controller using commands:
    1. To enter pairing mode on each controller, press and hold the Oculus+B (right) or Menu+Y buttons (left) for 3 seconds. You'll feel a light vibration from the front trigger when the controller transitions into pairing mode.

Please let us know if this was helpful. We will be waiting to assist you further if needed!

Same here. Just got this last week. Was working great. Today,  jerky environment, controllers tracking lost, boundary can't be set. Hardly any control. Did a factory reset as a last resort since restarts, etc. don't work.

I canceled the fit test after the reset. Seems OK now.

What a disaster.  Did Zuck fire the team that knew how to test a software update rollout?

09-24-2024 had this problem today and turned off fit adjust and the problem is solved!
