Quest cable link suddenly stopped working

Hash_Puppy

I've been connecting my quest 2 with my PC successfully for a very long time now (more than a year) with no problems at all, when all of a sudden it stopped working about a week ago. What happens exactly is I start the meta quest link app and attach my headset to my PC via cable as usual. I get the notification in the headset to connect, and the quest link app shoes my device is connected and ready to go, so everything looks good. But then when I confirm I want to connect in the headset, the black screen with the white meta logo and 3 white dots appears for about 5 seconds, then it suddenly takes me back to the main quest homescreen. After this has happened, if I try to connect again, my headset can't find my PC, even though the PC app still shows my headset is connected. On top of this, the quest PC app becomes unresponsive, not completely unresponsive, I can still navigate around the different menus, but if I try to actually do anything like install any apps, restart the app in settings, or even close the app down by clicking the red x, nothing happens. The only way to close the app at this point is through task manager. Finally, after closing the app in task manager, if I try to reopen it, it won't open, it just stays stuck on the spinning circle screen. If I restart my computer, I can open the app and it's responsive again, my headset responds when I plug the cable in, but as soon as I confirm I want to connect, the problems repeat. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the PC app, updating my graphics driver, and updating the quest hardware, but nothing is working. Please someone help, this is driving me crazy.

Finally got it working. Was a headache so ill post the solution here in case it can help others. Turns out it was a problem with AstrillVPN which I had recently installed, the layered service protocol (LSP) caused certain programs to crash. Uninstalling the LSP instantly fixed the problem 😃

Hi @Hash_Puppy 🙂

after restarting your pc and reopening the app, have you tried restarting the Quest before you link it to pc?

Sometimes this is all you have to do to make it work.

Hi @Choleni

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this isn't working either. The quest still gives me the notification to enable quest link, then returns me to the home screen after trying, and then can't find my PC again after the first attempt and the PC app becomes unresponsive. I've tried connecting on my laptop which also used to work, and am having the exact same problem, so it's either a problem with my cable, or with the PC app or the Quest itself. But the cable can still be used to transfer data, and the PC app shows my headset is successfully connected, so I'm thinking it must be a problem with the app or the quest (both of which were recently updated)

Have you tried using Air Link to rule out that the cable is the problem?

RFor me cable link is working fine.

What is your Quest version, pc link version.

I'm on

Quest 2: 71.0.0.606.522

link app: PTC 72.0.0.500.353

Haven't tried air link as I'm currently living in China, so using A VPN on my ethernet connected PC to access the PC app usually isn't a problem, but running the VPN on my quest at the same time over WIFI is usually very unstable. I'll see if I can get it to work later.  My link app is Meta Quest Link app version 71.0.0.451.524, and my Quest 2 is 72.0.0.530.347 Is it possible the cable is the problem, even though it can still transfer data, and the PC app can shows my headset as successfully connected when plugged in with the cable?

I'm not sure... but I would try a different cable.
I used to have a cable that I could sometimes play with, but sometimes not.

I couldn't see any damage to it, but I bought a new cable..... the new one always worked.

Hope, you'll get it work again soon🤞

I tried talking to support. Their first response was to check my graphics drivers, PC app, and quest were up to date, all of which I'd told them I'd already tried in the msg I sent them. I don't think they read the msg at all, just the subject line, and then copy and pasted some generic reply. When I replied that I'd done all that, they told me that to help me further they needed my full name, email address, username, and quest serial number. When I replied with this info, which seems largely irrelevant to offering me solutions to the problem, they stopped replying...

I'll try another cable. Hopefully that works! Thanks for the suggestions 🙂

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope you'll come back with some good news🙂
