RTX 3080 new drivers not working with Rift CV1?

TaeWilliam

I recently upgraded my graphics card to the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. Since then my oculus rift has stopped working. Whenever I enter a game, I get the famous orange blinking LED and a black screen.

Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue with the new drivers or just the graphics card in general?
I've tried updating all my drivers and reinstalling oculus and many other possible solutions, but nothing has worked. This is why I'm suspecting it has something to do with the newer 3080 drivers.

That would be truly horrible - getting better CV1 performance would be a primary reason for getting 3080 or even 3090 in my case. I have CV1 games going down to 22.5 fps (90 fps / 4) - it's no joke that you can have CV1 games where even 3090 won't be fast enough.

The amount of users with 3080 and CV1 would probably be very limited - it would not surprise me if this error could go unnoticed for some time. Interesting if other users have similar problems.

Saw your post on Reddit - good move, will get you more attention.

I have the rift s and the latest drivers are causing frame stutters. Im using a rtx 2080 super. I had to roll the driver back to correct the issue.

Clearly you blew up the CV1 internals by pushing all those sweet FPS!

On a serious note, if you're using an extension cable remove it and hook directly into the card. The 3080 may be outputting less voltage than your previous card as they can vary. If that works you may need to try a different cable or get a powered one.

Otherwise update drivers and do this stuff.

Thanks for the response. I haven't used an extension cable, so I don't think that's the issue. I will try do the other stuff you sent.

I've recently got a new amd rig with a rtx 3080 gigabyte aorus master 10g. Using my Oculus CV1 on that causes stutters, making it unusable, if I get time I'll record it and upload it to show the jitters/stutters.

Plugged the CV1 back into my other 1080 rig and no jitters or stutters, and I've got the latest Nvidia drivers installed on both.

Also I have no extension cables, I've removed everything that might cause issues, also tried swapping hdmi slots on the GPU to see if that made any differences, but nothing atm. New driver update and that didn't seem to help either.

Next thing I'll try is downgrading the driver on my 3080 box and see if it's maybe something to do with an rtx card on latest nvidia drivers or something.

I think so too - many have issues too with the Index, Valve may need time to fully support new gpus. Maybe a good idea to wait until about 3 months post-launch before getting new gpus...

Getting worse performance from a 3080 for weeks or months than my trusty 1080 would be just terrible.

Hi David,

Thank you for reaching back out with that update.

As Lorraine mentioned in her previous responses, this card is not yet supported for this device. That doesn't mean it's not powerful enough to run VR, just that there may be compatibility issues with the graphics drivers.

As she said, I believe your best solution would be to attempt to reach out to NVidia for any potential solutions they may have, or potentially attempt to rollback the driver to an older version.

Aside from that, unfortunately we cannot guarantee functionality with a graphics card that is not officially compatible with our products. Please feel free to reach back out should you have any further questions or concerns in this matter, we really appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Best wishes,
Ian

It'll be supported in a month or two, just wait. Fun thing that the supporter thinks that Nvidia might care and help  😄
