My old Gigabyte Radeon RX 5600XT was more stable and ran VR at a higher FPS than my new MSI RTX 4060Ti (8GB)

PC Specs:

i9 11900KF

MSI 4060Ti (8GB)

48GB RAM (3600Mhz)

Rift CV1 4 Sensors and Touch controllers
my pc is not overclocked or has ever been overclocked and all the parts are brand new

Something is wrong with Oculus.

RTX 4060ti  8gbvram.

VR Titles are showing warping polygons, tracking fails and crashing.  I can lift off the Quest2 whilst in a game or VRchat, and look at my desktop, no visible glitches are visible on the desktop, but through the Quest2 on VR Oculus, the problems are there, and make VR unplayable on the 4060ti.

I have invested well into this new graphics card but i may be forced to go back to the RTX 2060 super, which did not have these issues. No more VR with my buddies until this is resolved.

I have consulted (and exhausted myself) with Nvidia on these issues and the problem does not appear to be Nvidia driver or hardware related, it's definitely Oculus.

Screen recordings show stable pictures on the desktop, but on VR, Polygons are stretching and warping, frame rate stutters, tracking fails and i can see the blackness around me, and it crashes the titles over and over.

I am at my wits end even as a 20 year technician.   Oculus needs an update to resolve 4060ti incompatability.

Hardware spec:

Ryzen 7 3800x 8core 16thread 4.2ghz DDR4     -    Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060ti 8gb DualFan

32gb 3000mhz Corsair Vengeance

1tb M2 NVME Samsung 980 pro

Asus Prime B450 Plus

The Quest 2 headset is fine on a hardware level and in mint condition, it worked great on the RTX 2060 super.

On the 4060ti things may appear fine at first but as soon as you start to do anything, you quickly start having polygon stretches and it just gets worse from there.  Un-usable.

If you search online for 4060ti and Oculus VR problems, you can quickly see that the complaints are flooding in and they are all of a similar nature.  Poor performance, glitches, tracker hangs and crashes.

I have:

-Reinstalled Oculus software

-Reinstalled my operating system (Windows 10, up to date)

-Reinstalled all the latest Motherboard and Graphics drivers (nvidia driver version STABLE 546.17)

but no matter what, the Oculus software is not playing ball with the 4060ti (the RTX2060-super is fine) with terrible frame rate drops, polygons stretching everywhere, eventual tracker hangs and crashes.

The 4060ti is great on everything i have tested it with, theres no system limitations and my hardware smashes through the minimum requirements.

On its own, the Quest2 is fine and is in excellent condition with a clear vision in the onboard world, my system is also in excellent (new) condition and renders worlds correctly. But as soon as i connect the Quest2, wether by air link or link cable, the Quest2 is failing to translate and render correctly what the 4060ti is sending to it.

The USB port is also great, USB3 test results 2.6gbps using an official Oculus link cable (which is new).

I have tested and tested.

There is nothing more i can possibly do to solve this, it is definitely Oculus software which is the point of failure. I need this fixed.

I have even made a video to show you the severity of the issue, which makes VR unplayable on the 4060ti. It is very dangerous on the eyes in brighter games/worlds.

We appreciate the video, @Snake2v! That does seem super stuttery! Is this something that only happens in SteamVR's VRChat, or does it also happen with Oculus software titles? If so, which titles does it happen with? Since you had your last initial comment, there was a new 4060 Ti driver that Nvidia dropped on the 4th. Might be worth checking if that changed anything for you or not regarding the performance.

When uninstalling our software, be sure to also clear your appdata folders, since these might also foster corrupted files:

  • Uninstall the software using Control Panel and remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache

Be sure to restart your PC after updating your drivers, and uninstalling those folders. Then try reinstalling the software to see if that made any noticeable changes.

After further testing on my end (i dont own many VR games) Tested on SteamVR through Rift Link , RaceRoom and Lucky's Tale, they ran fine.

The issues seem to be only happening on VRchat, the only thing i really want to use.  Could this be a Unity/VRchat problem?
