Random disconnecting after Meta Quest 3 v76 update (April 2025)

TudorStefan26

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone has been encountering issues after the last April update, around 24th April to be exact. I mainly use the headset with wired link to play VR sim racing. Before this update, I had absolutely no issue, shortly after the install, the VR connection is lost after about 15-30, after an intense session.

Is there any fix for this? I saw that there is no way to roll back the driver... which is quite a shame. I was so excited after I bought it and set it up, only to have it crash now every half an hour.

@MetaQuestSupport After digging a bit deeper it seems to be a wide spread problem with the latest update. Any plans to fix it?

Hundreds of us have had this problem since V76, they don't care at all!
I contacted support like many others, and they send you pre-prepared messages without even reading your emails.
It's like AI.
All the messages look the same, with the same structure...

Both my Q3/512Gb and QPro are working fine with the latest non-ptc v76.1024.  I've tested this out with some longish (+1.5hr) flights with msfs2020, which is probably one of the most resource hungry PCVR apps out there.  I also helped setup a friends Q3 with Link a couple of days ago and it also worked fine with non-ptc v76.  So, I'm not sure that the problems using Link are caused by the v76 update.

I'm not sure what could be causing your disconnects but I guess the main thing is that at least you're getting connected properly to begin with, lol!  I've been using Link since it first came out +5 years ago, starting with a Q1, and some earlier updated were a bit hit and miss, but I haven't had any issues for the last few years with a Q2, Q3, and QPro.

Generally I've found that occasional disconnects can be caused by a number of things.  Mainly caused by a damaged link cable, poor usb connection at the PC or headset, and failing to disable all usb power savings.  Other things that can cause this is having too many unnecessary usb devices that may swamp your usb bandwidth and may be drawing more power from your motherboard than it can handle.  Also, there are other things like windows, Steam, and GPU driver updates that can also cause issues.  This can also be caused by running too many background apps (or startup apps).  Check your windows task manager and see if you can identify any large usages, esp. after a disconnect happens.

Besides going through the typical Link Troubleshooting steps like you can find on the meta support website, it's pretty hard to tell what the cause of your problem is caused by and how to sort these out.  I think your best bet may be to contact meta support including your log files (google how to do this) and see if they can identify what's causing your issues.

Sorry I can't be of more help.  Good luck mate and cheers.

Many thanks for the info, I really doubt it's the gear for me, I am using a new cable plugged directly into the board.

The race sim gear is plugged into a powered USB hub, so I have them separated. It's very annoying... I have lost now much more time troubleshooting than actual gaming time.

@Badstar25 You are right about the automated email, I have received it today as well. I need to check what they recommend and if any of it solves the issue. I have the feeling that it doesn't.

I have the official Oculus cable; the only solution I've found is to use a female USB-C to male USB-A adapter.
This allows you to test the USB-A ports on your PC. See here:

Same.  I could almost set a clock to the disconnect. But it even hangs my entire PC giving NVIDIA RTX 4090 issues.
Ever since v76 on Windows 11 the Meta Quest Link app has trouble starting at windows boot. The Meta launcher fails. Manual restarting the oculus VR service solves the issue. I can start Quest Link after that and connect.

Yet since a few days it crashes during game plan

Interesting, I also came across this idea, tried it out but then reverted when I saw the USB speed going from 3,7 to 2,2Mbps.

Will probably give it another go and see how it behaves.

PS: I tried again today after doing again some troubleshooting... after 15min it crashed... at this point I just want to sell it and give up sim racing altogether.

It is absolutely mind blowing how they have ruined the experience for so many people... if I would have known.

I paid around 700eur for the headset, elite strap and cable... and they make everything useless with one update.

I have between 2.4 and 2.6 Mbps USB speed and it works well? Which simulation are you on? I'm using Iracing.
I understand your frustration; I was in the same situation as you for the first few days.
Reset the Oculus debug tools settings to their original settings. In the Quest Like settings, return to the recommended settings at 72Hz to run some tests to see if the simulation no longer crashes.
Repair the Quest Link program in Windows Settings/Applications/Edit.
Restart your PC.
And then try a USB-A 3.2 gen1 port, 5Mbps max. 😉

See your motherboard manual to locate them.
