Random disconnecting after Meta Quest 3 v76 update (April 2025)

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone has been encountering issues after the last April update, around 24th April to be exact. I mainly use the headset with wired link to play VR sim racing. Before this update, I had absolutely no issue, shortly after the install, the VR connection is lost after about 15-30, after an intense session.

Is there any fix for this? I saw that there is no way to roll back the driver... which is quite a shame. I was so excited after I bought it and set it up, only to have it crash now every half an hour.

Many thanks again, will give it now a try and will come back with updates if it works. 🙂

PS: I play AMS2

LE: I tried it out, after 30 min it disconnected...

I have also had issues since the last update.  I only had my quest 3 and official meta link cable about two weeks before it updated automatically.  It had been working flawlessly before the update, but afterwards, I haven't been able to launch into PCVR after enabling the link cable.  It just shows a black screen with the meta symbol and 3 dots flashing.  I can get airlink to launch after a few tries but when it does, it's very unstable and unusable.  I've tried all of the recommended fixes except for a factory reset of the headset.

I thought by paying the extra money for the official cable would save me some headache, so much for that.

Many thanks for the info, I really doubt it's the gear for me, I am using a new cable plugged directly into the board.

The race sim gear is plugged into a powered USB hub, so I have them separated. It's very annoying... I have lost now much more time troubleshooting than actual gaming time.

@Badstar25 You are right about the automated email, I have received it today as well. I need to check what they recommend and if any of it solves the issue. I have the feeling that it doesn't.

Sorry @TudorStefan26   but a powered usb hub does not increase your PC's usb bandwidth.  To increase usb bandwidth you'd need to add a pcie card with separate usb channels and PC power input.  Not sure if this is actually causing your issue, just thought I'd mention this.  Cheers.

Edit; your disconnects might be caused by you running out of gpu vram.  this can happen with some complex sims.  One thing to try is to increase your windows swapfile to ~1.5x your current gpu vram (or ~1.5x your current installed ram).  I've found that this sometimes helps make things run a little smoother as well.  Lastly, go to your windows graphic settings and disable hardware acceleration graphics (HAGS).  I've found that HAGS (which with win11 is enabled by default) can cause a lot of PCVR issues.

Many settings may influence performance, but in this case it is clear that the latest meta software is faulty and cannot be fixed with windows settings..... Unless meta advises to do so as a proven solution. So far customer support is gathering logs files. Hopefully the developers understand what is in there because support is only suggesting the standard stuff like resets which is not addressing the issue.

The powered usb hub was bought only to separate the VR from the sim gear, it was getting quite hot and I thought it‘s the board not being able to supply stable voltage to the USB. It made a difference, it didn’t disconnect after 5-10 min but rather after 30min. Tested this multiple times…

About the GPU Vram, I run the 7900xtx with 24Gb Vram… could this still happen? Maybe I am missing ur point here.

I bought the QUEST 3 with all the official accessories, was super happy to upgrade my sim racing experience from monitor to VR, spent a **bleep** load of time watching videos online about best settings, H.264, bitrate, ASW… etc… and when I finally got it to look good and run smooth, they nuked it with their latest update.

Ya, vram with your gpu shouldn't be an issue, lol!  I have a bit better rtx4090 that also has 24Gb vram.  The only other thing I can think of that may be causing disconnects after ~30 minutes runtime would be temperature cutoffs.  Maybe check your cpu and gpu temps to see if this is the case.  Lowering your graphics settings and/or providing a bit better cooling may help.

While it may not help, I've found that since around v72 Dynamic bitrates seem to work better for me than just entering a bitrate number.  Enabling dynamic bitrate like I now do with my Oculus Debug Tool (ODT) works great and the beauty of these ODT settings is that I can use the same ODT for both Link and Air Link.  Anyway, I'll try to paste these settings below;

Current Beta version is 77.0.0.530.329, but it isn't fixed

Now I'm curious, I will also give it a try.

You'll have a better day if you take a beer 😉
