Resolved - Quest Airlink lags and stutters after V54 update.

Been using Quest pro with airlink for 4 months now without any issues whatsoever.

After the headset was updated to V54 I'm having headset lag/connection issues on airlink.

Screen is stuttery at times when moving in my playspace or moving my head, the image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side of the screen oposite to where I'm moving my head.

Image quality has degraded significantly with lots of "artifacts".

This makes casual games like VR chat hard to play due to constant lag and stutter, games like Beat Saber are impossible to play.

I havent changed a single thing in my playspace nor my setup, router config is the same as when it was working, PC is the same, no update has been applied to any of this.

Any advice would be much appreciated as Im lost on what to do.

Just in case

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080TI

Router: TP-link AX1500 Wifi 6 dedicated just to the headset.

So about that problem: this problem surprised me last Thursday. Suddenly everything stuttering badly.

Tried multiple things that meta tells you to do if you experience that issue. It did not help. What helped until I shutdown and switched on my headset again was factory resetting the Headset.

I've seen a post somewhere in this forum before but I can't find it. It said: press Volume down and power at the same time, select "boot device". That did the trick for me suprisingly. Nope it's actually nothing with my laptop or network. It's that one update.

My specs:

Quest 2 (256GB)

Intel i7 11800h

16GB DDR4 RAM

nVidia RTX3060 mobile edition with 6GB VRAM.

WiFi 6 access Point and WiFi 5 access point. (Tried both)

Same. Tried everything. I am like standing 1 meter from a wifi 6 dedicated router. And the quest 2 is the only device connected. Pc is connected with ethernet cat 7 cable. RTX 4080. Not a single reason for it to be suddenly choppy and laggy as for 4 months there has been no problem at all. After upgrade everything is corrupted.

It is outrageous that a fix hasn't been pushed to public release yet. My Virtual Desktop worked fine for over a year and suddenly I couldn't move my head without stutter. I tried factory reset and this fixed it but the issue came back after a restart of the headset. Yesterday I upgraded to PTC v55 and it seems to be OK now even after a restart.

I am amazed that a company this big can push out a broken update and then do nothing to fix it for weeks. You should have owned up and rolled back to the previous build until v54 was patched.

+1 Same problem, Fixed with factory reset but if you ever restart or shut down the device, it comes back.

It broke both Air Link and Virtual Desktop for me.

Hi
Also have the same problem.

Lag in air link after update to v54 on my quest pro.

Hey, I have the same problems.

First with v53 I experienced the artifacts on my right corner of the right lens.

Then I updated to v54 and the very heavy lag and stutters began.

I tried entering PTC and updating to v55, but air link is still laggy and stutters.

I have been at it for a week to fix this, and I tried everything in the reddit thread, I am convinced it is their software because I can play beat saber natively in Oculus without any artifacts or lag. As soon as I connect air link, it is **bleep**ed.

With V53 , my air link connection ran very nice, after the update I cannot play any pcvr over air link anymore.

I use my headset 1 m besides a wireless router which the headset is the only device connected to. Like I said, always worked pretty ok, but now I had to stop playing.

I'll add further onto this that I think may affect people still having issues with the PTC v55 and this trick: the stuttering'll come back again if you go into passthrough 'properly', but if you do the 'quick passthrough' trick again, it'll fix it.

... To say that we have to be as superstitious as a war-movie sniper right now is completely insane, but at least it seems to work.

Exactly. It'll come back if you go back into passthrough and exit it again too late. Same if you reconnect your Air Link or Virtual Desktop. You just gotta go in and out of passthrough quickly again.

I still advice everyone who got this stuttering / massive lag spike issue to try out the passthrough method I posted on page 12. It does help (atleast on v55, I couldn't try v54, still do try if you are on v54 though). Until this issue gets fixed completely with an update, this is basically the only way to fix it temporarily.

I confirm that after installing v55 everything is back to normal.
