Resolved - Quest Airlink lags and stutters after V54 update.

v1rtualv0id

Been using Quest pro with airlink for 4 months now without any issues whatsoever.

After the headset was updated to V54 I'm having headset lag/connection issues on airlink.

Screen is stuttery at times when moving in my playspace or moving my head, the image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side of the screen oposite to where I'm moving my head.

Image quality has degraded significantly with lots of "artifacts".

This makes casual games like VR chat hard to play due to constant lag and stutter, games like Beat Saber are impossible to play.

I havent changed a single thing in my playspace nor my setup, router config is the same as when it was working, PC is the same, no update has been applied to any of this.

Any advice would be much appreciated as Im lost on what to do.

Just in case

Specs

CPU I9 12900k

32GB Ram

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080TI

Router: TP-link AX1500 Wifi 6 dedicated just to the headset.

Had it crash out again on PTC V55 on the Quest Pro, though to it's credit, it lasted about three hours before crashing this time. Interestingly, the Quest Pro seemingly lost WiFi connectivity entirely, which is probably not the same problem, but still shouldn't be happening either (the wireless router it was connected to has always been very reliable).

Is anyone else seeing zero difference after moving to v55?

After the update to v54 I completely lost any ability to connect via cable or Air Link (just the three dots on the headset and a notification on my PC that "Oculus isn't working correctly"). Updating to v55 has done nothing to change that.

I tried plugging my headset (v55) into another PC I have (Oculus App v53) and it worked fine. Then I updated the Oculus App to v55 (from v53) and immediately lost the ability to connect via cable or Airlink. Which suggests to me that it's the Oculus App that is the issue.

@Space_tomb, can you let us know if the headset works with Air Link? Also, does it still charges when plugged in?

If so, please try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Repair the Oculus PC app:
    1. Go to www.oculus.com/setup scroll down to Oculus Rift S and click Download software.
    2. Select Repair.
    3. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
    4. Launch the Oculus PC app.
      • If Windows asks you if you’re sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
      • If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info and then click Run anyway.
      • If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
      • Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you've completed the repair.

  • Ensure that USB power settings in Windows Device Manager are not enabled:
    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Locate the USB ports under Universal Serial Bus controllers
    3. Right click and select Properties
    4. Navigate to the Power Management tab
    5. Ensure that the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box is not checked

  • Disable the USB Selective Suspend Setting:
    1. Right click the Windows start menu, and select Power Options
    2. Click Additional Power Settings
    3. Click Change plan settings
    4. Click Change Advanced Power Settings
    5. Locate the USB Settings and make sure that Selective Suspend Setting is set to Disabled

Howdy @alex.theologus, we see you are having difficulties connecting your PC and headset. We know how finicky PCVR can be, and we understand how important it is to be able to access the wonderful world of PCVR from your headset. We would love to assist you all that we can!

Can you let us know of the following so that we may provide accurate troubleshooting:

  • Are you able to use Air Link?
  • Is the cable from us or a 3rd-party?
  • What are your PC specs?
  • Have you updated all of your divers?
  • Make sure the graphics card is updated and the integrated card is disabled (only the dedicated card should be alive).
  • Have you tried other ports?
  • Does flipping the cable ends help?
  • If PTC is active, can you turn it off to revert to a more stable version of the headset?

Please inform us of the requested information, we can't wait to hear from you!

What I did and is working so far :

- Update mobile app to 55

- Update desktop app to 55

- Update headset to 55.

It does have some moments where the tracking is crappy but so far it goes back to normal after a few seconds. I'm still fearing it'll break again any day now.

I find it absolutely baffling that this is going on 6 days now and not even a mention or acknowledgement from anyone at Meta or an official statement on twitter. This is a HUGE issue! PCVR is still completely broken on both combinations of v54/v55 PC Software, and v54/v55 headset firmware. Any little workaround eventually stops to work. The knife in the heart is that it also affects Virtual Desktop, which when Airlink doesn't work, is always the backup for me. Hard to even consider recommending to anyone they invest in Quest headsets at this point.

Meta never acknowledge firmware bugs. I guess, as an american company, they know that as soon as they accept repsonsibility that becomes accepting liability and someone will sue them for a billion dollars for the inconvenience.

Yo, please try the temporary fix I posted in page 12. Until then it is a known issue and hopefully they're getting an update out asap. It's not a WiFi issue but a camera / tracking related issue that gets fixed temporarily when you do the steps I mentioned in my post.

This is horrible, so many devices made unusable.

It’s incredibly frustrating!
