Resolved - Quest Airlink lags and stutters after V54 update.

v1rtualv0id

Been using Quest pro with airlink for 4 months now without any issues whatsoever.

After the headset was updated to V54 I'm having headset lag/connection issues on airlink.

Screen is stuttery at times when moving in my playspace or moving my head, the image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side of the screen oposite to where I'm moving my head.

Image quality has degraded significantly with lots of "artifacts".

This makes casual games like VR chat hard to play due to constant lag and stutter, games like Beat Saber are impossible to play.

I havent changed a single thing in my playspace nor my setup, router config is the same as when it was working, PC is the same, no update has been applied to any of this.

Any advice would be much appreciated as Im lost on what to do.

Just in case

Specs

CPU I9 12900k

32GB Ram

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080TI

Router: TP-link AX1500 Wifi 6 dedicated just to the headset.

Nah I just think there’s better ways to voice our need to get this issue fixed lol. Some rando going “omg i’m getting a picolo” is not helping this thread none.
Youre right, a lot of us now can’t use something we paid money for because of this issue and I’m not here to call anybody stupid for being upset about it. Lashing out at the Mods or trying to urge others to drop Meta entirely for an issue isn’t gonna help them fix **bleep**, man. That’s all I gotta say

Urging people to greener pastures and telling people about thwir alternatives, eg, Pico, in any way wont solve the bug. youre right... But it will save them the heafache of dealing with non-functioning hardware. you can disable auto updates in the pico, so if you get a version you like, boom, you wont get bugged on.

My guy, people are allowed to voice that they are getting new hardware, or to tell people about alternatives, so stop your gatekeeping and let people speak, as long as it isn't outright, pure personal harassment... which is ironically close to what youre doing right now.

None of us can help that you dont seem to like pico or outright despise them, But gatekeeping others from even considering pico by being prohibited to speak of it by you aint right.

As for lashing out against the mods? Im guilty of that too. But I spent 2 weeks with support over emain getting tossed around like a raw, wet chicken, every single emain going to a different person acting like the bug doesnt exist, doing everything they told me. Dont get weird at us for getting mad when we have already waited this long. Yeah, you got the bug too. We know. And thats why we are this angry. We aint saints. We are angry because so many people are affected and and we have to wait this long, for this bad of a bug.

With that said, Can we please just leave the personal insulting behind? This is just sowing a devide between the users, and is entirely breaking off of the point this thread was made for: The bug and providing ways to avoid the bug. And as much as you hate this, the pico is one way of avoiding the bug.

people that are on v55, are your issues fixed? I am getting massive networking spikes every 30 seconds or so

I have been on PTC before but found out when you decide to go back to public updates it completely wipes your headset!

Quest 2, Quest 3, PCVR, Meta Wayfarer

No, V55 didnt fix the issue, i experienced the same thing as you mentioned. also please try and post v55 issues in its own thread here as requested by support: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Air-Link-Crashing-when-playing-a-VR-experience-v55/m-...

I already opened a new thread for v56 as well yesterday as the issue still persists. really cant believe this **bleep**.

how bad is it compared with v54? since going back to public updates I'm still on 54 🙄

Quest 2, Quest 3, PCVR, Meta Wayfarer

v56... I'm still on v54 and have no signs of updating at least to v55😂 I guess Quest 3 will be released sooner than I get an update or Meta fixes Airlink.

I think you missed my main point.

Im not gatekeeping or trying to keep anyone silent on the picolo, Im saying that people who are coming to this thread purely to say “Meta is against us and you should go somewhere else” ISNT helping anyone or helping the issue be fixed. We all want the issue fixed, that’s the whole point we’re all in this thread. You are entitled to speak and say what you want, I am too.

My main point is that attacking the Mods or bashing the company for an issue as if no other company or gaming platform has its own issues is pointless. Acting as if Meta is personally not fixing this bug or running us in circles is harmful and not helpful. I’m sure they’re doing what they can with whatever they got. I’m not someone who’s here to say I love Meta and all its practices, and I’d much rather not be involved but I think being a POS to the people who are trying to help is worse than anything else.

You do what you want in the end though. I can sit here and explain my point and you yours all we want. Im sorry if you felt attacked by my comment, but I just have no tolerance for assholes who are just here to complain. Now let’s move on

I'm currently on PTC v56 on my headset and the oculus pc app and I was finally able to get both airlink and virtual desktop working again. On the virtual desktop pc app under "Options" I set the "Preferred Codec" to "Automatic".

System Config:
32 GB RAM

i7-11700 @ 2.50ghz

GTX 1660 Super

5 Ghz Wi-fi 6 router

So this is super weird. But here goes.

One of my quests was on v54. my PC oculus app was on the PTC v56.

The first time I paired these two, everything worked great. Then I turned the quest off. Turned it on. Got into AirLink mode. Lags, stutters, the works.

Unpaired it, paired it again. Worked. Turned it off and on a couple of times, it borked again. Rinse and repeat same pattern.

One of the tries, it stuttered a bit at the start, but then started functioning smoothly.

Can someone else just try and confirm this? Even if you're on v54-v54 or v55-v55 or any other permutation and combination.

I think I should also add this: I turned off the 120hz screen update setting.

Also, inside the Air Link interface, I've set the bandwidth to a fixed 105 Mbps

So with all the chaos I am not sure, this belongs on here, but IT IS still the original Problem, so here goes.

My Lag for the most part is gone( I was on PTC v55 and now opted into the v56 PTC) .

Lag is not an Issue anymore, but boy ,  the Artifacts grew from v55 to v56 by a lot. My right lens is literally littered with them, and not only white ones; this time they come in all the different colors you like...

I know this is no priority nor should it be(the lag/dc problem is terrible), BUT remember if you somehow manage to fix the lag you still have the artifact's problem to deal with(which got bigger in v56)!!!

So I will go back to v55 and see if the artifacts get smaller.
