Resolved - Quest Airlink lags and stutters after V54 update.

v1rtualv0id
Explorer

Been using Quest pro with airlink for 4 months now without any issues whatsoever.

After the headset was updated to V54 I'm having headset lag/connection issues on airlink.

Screen is stuttery at times when moving in my playspace or moving my head, the image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side of the screen oposite to where I'm moving my head.

Image quality has degraded significantly with lots of "artifacts".

This makes casual games like VR chat hard to play due to constant lag and stutter, games like Beat Saber are impossible to play.

I havent changed a single thing in my playspace nor my setup, router config is the same as when it was working, PC is the same, no update has been applied to any of this.

Any advice would be much appreciated as Im lost on what to do.

Just in case

Specs

CPU I9 12900k

32GB Ram

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080TI

Router: TP-link AX1500 Wifi 6 dedicated just to the headset.

I also started having this problem after updating to v68. I'm unable to play (or do anything really) through Air Link or Link Cable. It was working perfectly prior to the update.

Still having this issue with v68. It simply anoys me that bad. Picture gets crazy for a while: Image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side.

I have this issue since Quest 3 rls.

I have Quest 2. Last time I used it (via Airlink) it was ok. Sadly I don't remember when it was. It could be like year ago. Now I wanted to return to playing on Quest 2 (via Airlink) but i can't. I updated software on Quest 2 to v69. I installed Meta Quest Link app. Since last playing session (that worked via Airlink) I didn't change router or/and PC (so I guess it isn't hardware issue). When I turn on Airlink and connect Quest 2 to my PC the "white" lobby shows, but after few seconds image gets laggy, choppy and black frames appear on the side (like nothingname1 said above). Then it freezes. I have to turn it off and on to try again. But every try is same result. Oh and additional info. Before connecting there is requirements check. Thare are 4 points (5ghz wifi, good signal etc). I have all of them fullfilled/checked.

Hi there @LKopa!

Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing this to our attention. A lagging screen is not ideal for getting stuck into the PCVR world.

For me it half-stopped happening with v69.

It hasn't completely stopped, but it seems this happens anytime i'm downloading any kind of update to the device. This is affected by manual and auto updates of the Quest 2 as well as by app updates. And for some type of background updates i am not aware how to turn off.

It seems to also block the device completely, so I need to wait until the update is finished downloading and installing, then restart the device completely. Restart needs to be done "as ultimatum" by turning off, waiting a few minutes and turning on again. It does not work if Restart option is selected in the device.

To my best guess of electronics, it seems a shared module gets saturated by any type of download while linked, so the device is unable to send and receive the proper handshake information to the computer thus causing the "limbo" state in the device.

As @LKopa mentioned above, i also have all checks for AirLink fulfilled according to the UI, and the Link Cable seems to be in good condition according to the app. I also have a separate router set up only for the PC where i use VR and the glasses, with no other connections allowed in the network. These checkpoints are OK at all times as far as i know so i think it's not a problem of external hardware or connection settings.

I haven't tried with a Quest 3, but i guess the same will happen as i've seen other comments with the same affliction on those devices. Maybe for Quest 4 it would be good to add a custom transmitter-receiver dongle to evade the AirLink issue if the module issue is fixed, as to be in control of all outcomes.

Thanks @MetaQuestSupport . It works now. Info for others what worked for me:

1. Turn off PC

2. Reset router (I unplugged power cord for 10 seconds and the plugged it in)

3. Hard reset Quest 2 headset (turn off your headset, then press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously until the boot screen loads)

4. Turn on PC
