Rift CV1 senors - can they die suddenly?

OK, so this kit is not now supported but the games I have played have been great (last was Lone Echo II a couple of moths ago).  Just got the kit out again and one of the (2) sensors seems to have died.  At first I didn't notice but one hasn't been detected for a couple of  days.  PC doesn't give any sign of recognising it - USB2 or USB3 with other sensor removed.  I notice the working one has a light on top which comes on for 10secs when logging onto PC - nothing from the other one so looks like its died.  Plugging into a laptop its recognised as "eTronvideo bootloader"  - does that mean anything?

Is the sensor repairable or do they just die? thanks
