Does anyone have any fixes for a rift that intermittently disconnects? I will be playing a game, only for the rift to go completely black and a message along the lines of 'The HMD has been disconnected. Closing the client'.It has only started doing this the last two days, but its doing it more often now. i have raised a support ticket

So far they have just asked me to check cables and such. I have also just sent the Diagnostic log output too.

The annoying thing is it has been working fine for 2-3 weeks. I have moved the cable around too to see if this causes the disconnect, but I don't think it is

Aside from the cables, it could be your ports. Easy way to test is to plug a monitor into the same HDMI port your Rift uses. If it turns off randomly while you're using it, it's the port.

Same can be said for the USB port. If you've got a wired mouse, plug it into the same USB port your Rift uses. If it randomly disconnects, then it's the port.

IF it is the ports, then that's super bad news as it's way easier to replace a cable instead.

This will give you something to do while you wait for support and it can't hurt to check either. Just don't plug things in for a couple minutes and go "well it works, must be the Rift." Give it like a good hour or two of solid use before deciding it's the Rift.

One thing I have noticed, and I didn't recall this when I first installed the rift, is that the sensor thinks that the usb 3 port is actually a usb 2 port. I'm wondering if there is some compatability issue, or a driver issue on my usb ports.

Having problems with disconnects as well.  Debug shows Rift USB disconnecting.  Home reports HDMI cable disconnected.

...[Kernel:Default] OVR::Win32::HIDDevice - Lost connection to '\\?\hid#vid_2833&pid_0031...

For me fire up Elite and USB disconnects regularly normally at least once or twice a night for no discernible reason.

My experience with Musical ports plugging camera and Rift both into either recommended Inateck board (/w SATA power connected) or motherboards Intel USB3 ports resulted in regular disconnects while playing Elite.

What so far seems to have solved problem with no further disconnects was to plug Camera into an Inateck port and Rift into Intel.

Regardless of cause it would be awesome if Oculus could be made to automatically heal itself and continue.  When this happens in Elite tracking returns after a brief delay - you can see it in the monitor window but the HMD drops to home and  never recovers you have to restart the application to get it back in VR.

still no response from support on the issue. I'm now considering asking for a refund. Im positive the issue is with the headset itself. If i apply slight pressure around the area in which the cable connects to the headset, it disconnects. This would be the pressure felt on that area if I was moving my head around. I expect, the issue is something to do with the port in which the cable connects. likely something has loosened. Interestingly, the issue only occurs once the headset has warmed up a little.

The issue deffo occurs when the headset has heated up. Just tried playing Eve Valkryie. 5 minutes in, headset disconnect. the headset feels warm to touch too, especially round the area where the connector plugs in. Suspect the heat is having an affect on

A new update. I did a pretty thorough test today.
. I have moved my HMD to a different usb, played Eve Valkryie for 10 minutes and then got the disconnect.
. I then placed my headset on my desk level and isolated from movement. I placed an object in front of the sensor so it would think someone had the headset on, and left it for 5 minutes. No disconnect.
. I then wiggled the cable ever so slightly near the headset, and immediately got a disconnect.
. Once reconnected, I left it once more for a few minutes, no disconnect.
. Wiggled the cable slightly, and a disconnect.
. I then looked at wiggling the cable down different lengths. It only disconnected when wiggled in and around the end connected to the headset.
. I then held the cable very still, and only wiggled the actual part connecting to the headset, disconnects.
. I then removed the cable from the headset for 5 mintues to let it cool. When I reconnected it, and wiggled, no disconnects.

My evidence shows that this issue only occurs after the headset has warmed up, and only when the cable is moved.

I don't think this takes a rocket scientist, or a Support desk for that matter, much time to work out that there is an issue with the headset. So why it is taking so long for Oculus support to sort this out is beyond me.

My ticket is #236729, in case anybody from Oculus is looking at this.

I am very interested to hear from people who have experienced this same issue. I want to know how wide spread this problem is. This is a problem that only appeared after 2-3 weeks of use, playing games for about 2 hours a day. I suspect that issues likes this will become more common as wear and tear kicks in. I have done nothing but use my Oculus rift in its intended manner, and so I can only conclude that the CV1 us not robust enough and not up to the task of general consumer use, assuming that this isn't an isolated issue. However, the number of posts I am seeing on this forum suggest that this isn't an isolated problem.
