Rift S Application Crashing and Performance Issues

HotPocket_V

I've been using my Rift S for a month now, and I've been having to go through a meticulous process to get VR games and applications to run. As a quick note, most of the VR games I have are in my Steam game library and not in the Oculus game library.

For the main problem, I've been experiencing sudden crashes on startup of most VR applications. If I do make it past that, then the Rift S performance starts to go down noticeably. When it does crash, any USB devices plugged into my PC seem to restart, or turn off and then back on. This includes my mouse and keyboard. I also get a crash message from SteamVR alerting me with a message along the lines of my oculus "driver" crashing, and SteamVR having to either restart, or quit as a result.

Below is the process I've been doing in an attempt to get this all to work:
1. Starting up the Oculus client
2. Manually setting up my Rift S in the "Devices" tab
3. Unplugging and plugging back in the main cord for the Rift S
4. Repeating step 2
5. Launching whatever application I pick from my Steam library, and not the Oculus library.

I've tried to push through with all of the problems, but it has become too tedious to go through all of these steps whenever I try to get my Rift S to work in the first place.

My general PC specs if it matters:
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1650 Super
CPU: Intel i5-9400F

Just submitted the ticket with the diagnostic logs included. Thank you!

Edit: After submitting my ticket in I got a response quite quickly, so here's a shortened down version of the response to help you out if you're having the same issue as I was:
- If you have any background applications/processes that are heavy on your CPU, find a way to disable them.
- Make sure everything is up to date, such as your operating system, GPU drivers, and the Oculus app itself.
- Turn off Windows Game Mode and NVIDIA Overlay.
- Opt into the Oculus app's public test channel which can be found under the beta tab in settings.
- Try going without 3rd party tools such as Oculus Tray Tool.

Hey i just saw your post, and maybe this will help, but the 1650 super is not going to run your rift s, however, the plain 1650 will run it. Cant imagine why that is, i know this because ive used both cards and that was my experience, i ended up going with the MSI radeon rx 5500 xt mech 8gb card. And ive never had one single issue since. My build: Asrock b365 phantom gaming 4, radeon rx 5500 xt 8gb, 16gb ram and core i7-9700k. Hope that helps alleviate some of your time spent on it.
