Rift S Screen goes black while using it

Hey everyone,

i've seen the problem described in a few threads. But it seems no one has a good solution. I've got the new Rift S. But after using it a while (between a few seconds and a minute) the screen starts to flicker and then goes black. The simulation is still running. I can see it on my monitor and hear the sound.

I already tried
  1. Unplug/Replug DisplayPort and USB
  2. Newest Nvidia drivers (from the nvidia website)
  3. Newest USB drivers
  4. Windows Updates (Audio seems lost since updating to windows 1903. Would not recommend it)
  5. Power settings to the highest
  6. Do not allow PC to deactivate USB to save power
  7. Remove the facial interface and unplug/replug the cable on the rift side
I contacted the support yesterday but they have not answered yet. Probably very busy right now...

Anyone with the same problem? Any more ideas are appreciated

Oculus support said they would replace the complete Rift S and asked me for pictures from the controller serial numbers.

Really what fuck is going on! I was sim racing for couple of hours and just start happening. Just random black screens for 2 secs. Maybe 1-2 every minute. Windows update? All i can think of.

Someone had the exact same issue. Works fine for the first 5-10 mins then its starts and the frequency of the blacks out come faster

Its the damn cable! Where it bends at the headset, if i touch or move it goes on and off.

Check if the connector is not properly seated on hmd's end... if it is - contact oculus support for new cable.

Got my replacement. This one is even worse! Took me a day to get it running at all. Had to unplug my 4K monitor and hook up a older one and then reinstall Oculus software. This one blacks out after a few seconds (while i still can see the simulation on my monitor)

Allready tried:

  • Complete virus scan (Using c’t desinfect
(Boot up a Linux and run (F-Secure, Kaspersky, Sophos))

  • Reinstall Oculus Software

  • Tried all the Display ports and USB 3
    ports

  • Power mode is on „Performance“

  • USB energy saving is deactivated (power
    plan and device manager)

  • Resetting the cable at the HMD

  • Lowering the speaker volume to 40%

Really getting
annoyed here

Any
more suggestions?

Well... from hail mary deparment you could try:
1) Updating bios and drivers for MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Motherboard
2) Checking what the logs have to say*

Hello @sraura,

Updating the motherboard drivers did not help.
Oculus support is still suggesting reinstalling oculus software (like i did not do that 5 times over now)

A friend of mine mentioned problems with his Rift (CV1 i think) at the beginning because there were remnants of the DevKit2 lurking around. He said Oculus support provided a removat tool at the time. You ever heard anything like that ?
I had a DevKit2 at my PC a while back.

I looked at the log files when Oculus support wanted them. There was nothing that stood out to me. Anything in peticular i should check?

If that does not help i'll try to just set up a new windows installation and hope for the best

Oculus support suggested file and memory checks and eventually a Windows 10 reinstall.
Nothing helped. I've just asked for a refund. I'am really disappointed.
