Rift S Screen goes black while using it

Hey everyone,

i've seen the problem described in a few threads. But it seems no one has a good solution. I've got the new Rift S. But after using it a while (between a few seconds and a minute) the screen starts to flicker and then goes black. The simulation is still running. I can see it on my monitor and hear the sound.

I already tried
  1. Unplug/Replug DisplayPort and USB
  2. Newest Nvidia drivers (from the nvidia website)
  3. Newest USB drivers
  4. Windows Updates (Audio seems lost since updating to windows 1903. Would not recommend it)
  5. Power settings to the highest
  6. Do not allow PC to deactivate USB to save power
  7. Remove the facial interface and unplug/replug the cable on the rift side
I contacted the support yesterday but they have not answered yet. Probably very busy right now...

Anyone with the same problem? Any more ideas are appreciated

Oculus support suggested file and memory checks and eventually a Windows 10 reinstall.
Nothing helped. I've just asked for a refund. I'am really disappointed.

I've got exactly the same issue and been through the same steps with support. They have asked me to reinstall Windows which isn't something I can do right now so I'm at a bit of a standstill.

Mine was working perfectly with 1.37 and the second I updated the firmware I started getting the issues.

I did spot OculusService.exe has a fatal error and it gets added to the Windows Event Viewer logs, I did highlight this twice to support but they didn't comment on it.

It sucks because I was enjoying it up to that point, probably used it for only 5 hours and then this happens. If I do sent it back it means I have spent money on games that are unusable across the different gaming platforms.

@MJehle01 Did you try to install an earlier version of the NVIDIA driver? It's working for me on my MSI laptop with 1060 (P65 8RE) after installing a much older version of the NVIDIA driver, 398.84. Not even the NVIDIA control panel app works with this version of the driver, but at least the Rift S is working.

I tried installing the direct previous version - didnt try a very old version. I'll give that a try though - I'm at the desperation time.

Turn the volume on your Rift S down to 25% and output the sound to an external speakers on your PC or home system. This stopped the constant  blackscreen/orange light -> Oculus Home Notifications. "Your headset's DisplayPort cable isn't plugged in. Please plug in your headset." I noticed when playing games that have allot of action on the screen at the same time with loud booms would cause it to BlackScreen. Saitento has been causing the black screen allot when playing of late. Turned down the volume to 25%, has not crashed in 4 hours of play testing Saitento! Anyone else?

@MartenNL Yes i tried two or three different drivers.
@paulhotline I think i tried the volume at 40 and 30 percent and headphones.

At least i got the refund without problems

Well. I bought a VR headset from a competitor and it work perfectly fine at the first go. The problem is definitely not my PC but the Oculus software.
