Just a heads up if you are experiencing the same issue..    After spending two hours in chat with support. making changes and trying to fix the "black" screen problem..  I rebooted my laptop and then went back into support chat .  I was then told.  " I'm sorry to hear that. PC VR only works for PCs as of now.  At this time, that is currently not an available feature. We appreciate your feedback and would like to hear more."   He would no longer help me.    Good luck peeps..  oh.. and by the way.. I have been trying to get my account fixed for almost two months.. get it fixed only to find out this ..     Take my advice.. and go with another company.

@KernalPain Hey there, thanks for bringing this up here. Without being able to really take a look into your ticket, there does seem to be some miscommunication on the teams end here.

I want to ensure you that PCVR does still extend to Laptops as long as they fit our requirements:

  1. Rift/S Requirements
  2. Quest Link Requirements

The main reasons why some laptops don't work would be due to any of the following factors:

  1. Only having integrated GPU's
  2. Not meeting the above requirements.

If you're able to drop a ticket number, I'd be glad to talk with some people and see what we can do to move it forward.

@KernalPain  What are your Laptop specs?  Even my +4yo Alienware 17r4 laptop with a gtx1060 6Gb gpu still works fine with both Rift cv1 and Rift S.  Maybe disconnect your Rift S and download the oculus desktop app from the meta support website and run a Repair.  After doing this and logging in, try setting up your Rift S again.  I just helped a friend setup his Rift S last week and didn't have any problems.

The only thing you may have problems with a laptop is properly displaying the virtual desktop (might show up as a black screen).  Google ' Oculus Rift virtual desktop black screen ' for several solutions.  I found I just needed to change the op nvidia control panel setting to prefer the nvidia gpu, not the integrated igpu.

With my friends PC we also needed to do this (from googling);

Go to Windows Settings -> Display -> Graphics Settings (way at the bottom)
Under "Graphics performance preference" -> "Choose an app to set preference" -" "Desktop app". Click "Browse" and select:

C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe

Click "Add".
Select "Options" and set it to "Power saving", and click save.

do same thing for C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-client\OculusClient.exe

Restart the laptop and oculus, it should work now.
