Yes, i have already changed the battery, did not work. the right controller automatically powered on when i paired the headset to my computer (the VR headset is my father's, he is just letting me use it on my computer), but the left controller does not show any signs of light. maybe it's because of the bit of rust on the contact points, but i want to find all other options i can do before even TRYING to deal with the rust.

I believe you are doing better to deal with the rust first. The battery can't give its power to the controller if there is rust on the battery contacts.
Use some contact cleaner to remove the rust.
Or try using a cotton swab with alcohol or vinegar.
