Rift headset keeps disconnecting?

Hey guys, first time posting.  Hoping someone can give me some ideas to try out here.

I'm an early adopter of the Oculus Rift and Touch controllers.  Preordered both, so I have the earliest consumer models.  I've recently been having a problem with my headset randomly disconnecting.  I first started to experience it a few weeks ago where I'd be playing a game for a short period of time, and then randomly my headset would go black.  Upon looking at the Devices list, the headset's USB 3.0 and HDMI were not shown as connected.  I'd then unplug and plug them back in, and it would work again until it disconnected again.

At first I thought maybe it was a problem with my graphics card (GTX 980), so a couple days ago I went and picked up an MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio.  Unfortunately the same thing was happening.  I tried running the initial configuration... It brought up the screen showing all the devices as connected (Headset HDMI & USB along with all 3 of my sensors).  Then as I continued through the configuration, randomly the headset would disconnect, and I'd have to start over, and at the initial screen it would show "loading" icons next to my headset's HDMI and USB, showing it as disconnected.  I'd replug and it would show up as connected again.  I'd go through the configuration, and it would disconnect.  Every time.  I went and skipped the configuration, and was able to launch a game.  It would play for about 10 minutes, and then it will go black, as the headset disconnected.

I've gone into Device Manger and made sure all my USB ports have their Power Management settings set so that Windows doesn't turn off the ports.  I've used multiple USB slots on my PC.  I even went out and bought an Apple USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter, and connected that to the Virtual Link USB-C port on my 2080 (it works, but same situation where it will disconnect).  I've tried using USB/HDMI extenders as well as just connecting the base cables in.  I thought it might have been a problem with my motherboard's USB controller, but by connecting everything through the 2080's USB-C connection, and it still having the same problem, I don't think that's the problem.

Here's my PC specs:

Motherboard:  Gigabyte Z97X-SLI ATX
CPU:  Intel i7 4790K @4.7GHz
GPU:  MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio
RAM:  Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR3 1600 (8GBx4)
AIO:  Corsair H150i
PSU:  Corsair CS850M

I just don't know what else to try.  I've sent an email over to Oculus support, and I'm waiting to hear back from them.  I'm not sure if my Rift is still under warranty or not though.  It's been handled very carefully, exclusively by adults, and has been placed on a stand when not in use.  So I don't think anything should have broken in the headset, but who knows.

Does anyone have any other ideas, or has heard of this happening before?

I might have missed it reading your post as it´s beer and fleshlight saturday for me.

Have you tried installing windows freshup ?
If your powermanagement is set as it should, only problems I can refer to is a corrupt psu or you reg or gp.

This is actually on a fresh install of Windows.  Thought it would help, but no luck.

I’m thinking it’s a physical problem with the headset.  It just seems like there’s a short in it somewhere.  I kind of feel like getting a replacement cable for it to see if that fixed it, but then again I don’t really feel like dropping another $50 to solve the problem.

Have you tried to unplug and plugin the cable at the hmd´s end ? ( You prolly have. )
Also look to see if there is a bad connector in the cable itself. Read about that a loooong time ago, but cant seem to find that post.

Also, have you didabled fastboot in bios ?
Do you have the option of trying out another psu ?

Could be a defect cable though. Does it show any tear anywhere ?
