Rift s crashing.

I know many people have complained of this issue because i've been reading through them, none of these fixes have seemed to have worked for others or me and it't only become worse over time, it used to be the occasional crash once a session, but now i can't even load into blade and sorcery without that high pitches noise making fun of me.

If anyone actually does have the solution for these please respond with it, or if not can i get help with where i can directly email oculus or meta.

the message i get when it crashes is display cable has been disconnected, i have made sure both cables have slack on both ends so that they don't fall out and even still it crashes, there's nothing going over the cables as ive set them up above me.

Hiya @Vexatious6, we were hopping on by and saw you are having difficulties with your Rift S crashing. We know how finicky PCVR can be, and we understand how important it is to be able to access the wonderful world of PCVR without crashing problems. We would love to assist you on this matter all that we can!

So that we can provide accurate troubleshooting  can you review the following:

  • Is the cable from us or a 3rd-party?
  • Have you updated all of your divers?
  • Make sure the graphics card is updated and the integrated card is disabled (only the dedicated card should be alive).
  • Have you tried other ports?
  • If PTC is active, can you turn it off to revert to a more stable version of the headset?

Here are some troubleshooting steps in the meantime:

  • Repair the Oculus PC app:
    1. Go to www.oculus.com/setup scroll down to Oculus Rift S and click Download software.
    2. Select Repair.
    3. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
    4. Launch the Oculus PC app.
      • If Windows asks you if you’re sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
      • If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info and then click Run anyway.
      • If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
      • Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you've completed the repair.
  • Ensure that USB power settings in Windows Device Manager are not enabled:
    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Locate the USB ports under Universal Serial Bus controllers
    3. Right click and select Properties
    4. Navigate to the Power Management tab
    5. Ensure that the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box is not checked
  • Disable the USB Selective Suspend Setting:
    1. Right click the Windows start menu, and select Power Options
    2. Click Additional Power Settings
    3. Click Change plan settings
    4. Click Change Advanced Power Settings
    5. Locate the USB Settings and make sure that Selective Suspend Setting is set to Disabled

Let us know how this goes!

  1. No I'm not using air link, rift s isn't compatible with that.
  2. I'm using the cable that came with the rift s when I bought it.
  3. When I updated my graphics card drivers nothing changes, and I'm not sure what other drivers I could change, I have reinstalled the USB drivers a few times now.
  4. I have used all 3 HDMI ports and all USB ports.
  5. I don't understand what you mean by flip the cable ends as they are only able to go in one way as they are not USB c like the quest 2.
  6. I am not a part of the PTC.
  7. and I have already tried all of these troubleshoots

Thank you, hope this may help someone else though.

  6. downgraded to windows 10
  7. disabled the usb selective suspending
  8. made sure the power settings aren't enabled on the usb
  9. made sure that the ports are all plugged in
  10. tried all the ports i have
  11. deleted all mods i have installed to make sure that its not a pc issue
