Robo Recall crashing

Madspecv

Hi,

I just bought Robo Recall from the Oculus Store, I am trying to play but it crashes every time. The game does load, I can get in the menu but when I get into the game, maybe 5 seconds in after loading, it crashes.

These are my system specs and what I did to try to fix this

Specs:

Intel i9 12900k
32gb DDR5 @ 6000mhz
WD Black S850 1tb m.2 drive
GeForce RTX 3080 with latest drivers
Windows 10 pro all up top date
NO anti virus software installed

Steps I took to try to solve this by myself:

- Opened Resource monitor to see if I had enough memory: all good
- In game changed the graphics settings to minimum ( no anti aliasing, nothing )
- Uninstalled the game and reinstalling it
- Uninstalled the game and reinstalling it on another SSD drive
- Uninstalled the Oculus software and reinstalling it
- Did a pass with CCleaner just to be sure

After all of that, the game still won't work.

Thanks for your help

Thank you so much Madspecv 😄 Your brilliant solution came after a few frustrating hours of not understanding why my Quest 3 crashes all the time. I've been connecting via cable to my brand 1 day old Acer Predator laptop with GeForce 4070 card. Many games crashed when I switched from Desktop view to seethrough and back, or when I wanted to close them, and Robo Recall was crashing after a few seconds, as it was the case for many others. Needless to say your input is greately appreciated, as it appears to have solved all my problems 🙂

Great that it worked for you and it did for me BUT only when trying to launch certain Meta games through Virtual Desktop. If this game crashes for you and you are using Quest Air Link then please report it as a problem with Meta, raise a support ticket.

You should not need to add that environment variable.

While I agree that you shouldn't need to add this environment variable (see solution for how to do this) it is necessary for me with many older games where the developer hasn't updated code.  This happens with Link, Air Link, and VD using Meta-Link or Steam store games.  I haven't seen any negatives for adding this variable with my i913900k/rtx4090.

Even worse, on some Steam games you may also need to mod the game properties to win7 compatiblility (eg. Moss1/2, Trover Steam versions).  Bit of a pita, but still a good workaround if you actually want to play these.

I have opened support tickets on all these with Meta and Steam but nothing has ever been done and have always been told to contact the developer since only they can apply a proper fix.  I also tried contacting them but never got any response.  In some cases the developer is no longer even active.

If you are not prepared to apply workarounds then you should avoid playing them, and maybe try to get a refund imho.  Cheers.

i9 13900K water cooled, RTX4090, Z790 MB w/wifi6e, 32Gb 6400 ram, 2x2TB SSD, 1000W PSU, Win 11, QPro, Q3, w/Link and Air Link, Vive Pro1 with 2x2.0 base stations, Etsy lens mod and Index Controllers

I also had this very issue BUT it was only related to when I used Virtual Desktop and tried to launch it via that interface.

I applied the above workaround and it worked well, until I realised that it was VD causing me to need it.

Why I am noting that Oedhinn should consider contacting Meta support is that I did and they were becoming most helpful, asking for logs and other questions etc....However as I had associated my issue with VD I did not pursue this.

If I had the issue whilst launching this game via the route of using Air Link and it still crashed without adding that noted variable I would indeed be working with their support.

What comes of it...............at that point it would not matter, per se, but working with the devs has to have some chance, no matter how small it is considered, of making a positive change, than by not contacting them.

Point taken tho on being able to help yourself, my lengthy usage of computers has given me some experiences of doing just that..!

All the best

how do you do that? i cant find what you put in your post. Is it in the headset or?

This is applied in your computer, not on the headset itself.
