SMS verification is not being received - Can't log into Meta account

I haven't used my Quest 3 for a few months due to a neck injury. I was recommended a new game so went to the Metastore on my pc to purchase it. I was asked to login, I chose 'Using Facebook' - this is where things started to go wrong. I was asked for a confirmation code via SMS text. Got nothing, waited minutes still nothing, rinse and repeat..nada. I then went to 'using email address'. Same problem, SMS required despite code coming through email as expected, you've still got to use the SMS step.

I can't even log in to this forum under that account because of this ridiculous situation. I have had to open a new Meta account to make this post.

All login procedures and settings seem to be under "Accounts Centre" which looks new to me and I think this is the problem - poor migration. Instructions that I found for getting Recovery codes are wrong.

I can still connnect to MetaStore via headset and mobile app, but if the login data for these gets compromised (it will eventually) I'll have a partially bricked Quest.

I've set up Facebook to use non-SMS verification but that hasn't enabled me to make any changes to the Meta account  login options.

Solution options:

a) Get the SMS service working (why can't Meta manage this simple task?)

b) Allow the Facebook login to use the Facebook authentication - I've turned SMS off yet it still asks for SMS code.

c) Make the need for recovery codes more obvious and easy to get. Not everyone has a mobile grafted onto their body, they break and get stolen/lost. (not that the SMS option works, so this is a MAJOR flaw in security)

I have researched this for several hours and none of the fixes I've found are appropriate because they never refer to Accounts Centre.

N.B. You have a paying account here looking to make a purchase, but you are putting many obstacles in the way. I can see why more people opt for piracy, it's not always about not wanting to pay sometimes it's the only option.

I'm also having issues with SMS not sending me a code. I wanted to stream BeatSaber to my iPad for some family fun during Thanksgiving. But, I wasn't able to log in with my iPad because I never received the SMS code that was supposedly sent to my phone. I end up creating a new Meta account from my Facebook account just to post this. It's been over 30 hours, and still nothing. I even tried again today, and still no code. Why have an SMS verification step if your SMS doesn't work.

Edit: About 2 minutes after posting this, I'm suddenly able to get SMS verification pins. I'm going to log in with my actual Meta account so that I can disable 2-factor SMS under my account before that system goes down again.
