i've been having the Oculus for a month or so and it was working Flawlessly on a 2x 970 gtx with windows 7 .
i have the Rift and the monitor connected to the first card with SLI enabled. i know VR dont support SLI but i left it enabled.
played on win7 for 3 weeks not a single issue.

I installed Win 10 . every thing was working good for 3 days , at the 4 day i went to power the Rift i get only the sound working but black screen on the display and orange light on .

for 3 days after that i tried every thing on the internet , and i mean every thing, i installed win7 back didn't work then i installed win 10 again didnt work i switched every USB around , i unplugged all USB from the PC and only left the rift alone connected to USB 3 alone , NO work . i disconnected the monitor , no work . i put the monitor in the second card and , Also no work . 3 days continuously with the minimum hours of sleep trying to fiddle around with out any thing.

at every try i would do a clean install of Oculus Run time. at every install at the page where it checks if everything is connected right  all 3 connected
Sensor  USB 3   OK
HMD     USB 3   OK
HMD     HMDI    OK .

in my desperation at the last try before giving up i disabled SLI and i try the Oculus , Still no work the oculus was connected to the first Card.  I keep SLI disabled and i connected the Rift to the second Card . i fire up the Oculus and to my surprise it works .

i literally had to rup my eyes so i can believe . so at this point this is the only way it works . even if SLI disabled and rift connected to the first card it doesnt work . it has to be the second card and SLI Disabled . if Enabled it again goes to black screen . if i disable it back Boom it turns on with no problem.

I understand about computers but im not at a technician level . can someone help me out . why i cant connect it to the first card , and why its not working like Before on win7 with SLI enabled , or even windows 10, i could have it work for like 3 days on windows 10 with SLI enabled and Rift in the First card.

what could be the issue ,  Thank you in advance for any help.

EDIT:    so the problem ended up being a bad HDMI output on graphics card, i got a new card ( evga 1070 gtx) once connected every thing was back to normal . thanks guys for all your help.

Did you run your oculus app in the administrator user account? I got the same black screen and orange light issue before. It was working just fine.  But it stopped working one day and no matter what is did a d it just showing the images in the headset. I was running oculus in a standard user account. But once I log off and run the oculus in the administrator account the headset is working again. Please try if this is your case. Hope it helps.

I have only one account with administrator rights , on top of that i run Oculus as an administrator from the shortcut properties.

As i mentioned in my post that it is working now but in the second card only and SLI has to be disabled no matter what card its connected to . it is very weird since it was working fine before in the first card with SLI enabled.

It may be due to an update somewhere along the line that broke it. Can't complain too much really as sli is not officially supported (yet).
I doubt you'll notice any difference in VR as previously it would have only been using one card anyways.

I'd highly recommend selling those 2 while you can and grabbing a 1070 😉

what i dont understand is that it was working perfect , plus the 970 was giving me like 60 fps most of the time in DCS why get another Card now . my question now is , will it be slower since its connected to the second card and not the first card ? my understanding is that when SLI is disabled , Card # 2 is not processing at full speed or something of that sort . i still didnt try it in a game since it was late and the minute i got it to work last night i was exhausted and i just wanted to shut the PC

Based on your cards being Asus though, I'm beginning to wonder if the hdmi port on card number 1 is fried.
Swap slots round and I bet the current card 2 (which will become card 1) is still the only one that works. In which case raise a support ticket with oculus so they know it has shorted out your card, also see if you can RMA thd card with asus ( I'd advise omitting the oculus I  the RMA though ;))

From what I've read on these forums yes.
They are also a pain as far as mobo's go (I have always have had an Asus board but not after my next upgrade) as I've had issue personally with the USB chipset.
I'd recommend 3VGA for gfx.

Asus HDMI and Oculus no bueno... Use a Display port/HDMI connector or swap your cards and use and HDMI extension and an HDMI interface. I did the later and all the problems resolved.
