A few months ago, both my Alienware 15 webcam and (I found a few months later) my Oculus Rift S failed to work.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers, my software etc. and nothing worked. The system restore wouldn't work because the last date was only a few days prior and this issue started early summer 2023 (it's now December 2023). The webcam would operate for a couple of seconds, freeze for 10 seconds and then work for a couple of seconds. The VR headset would look as though the handset with the laser pointers were sitting ~15 ft below me.
My computer repair guy rebooted my system with his Operating System and we found there was no hardware error. It worked perfectly.
I followed both Avast and also Oculus' advice but nothing worked.
I couldn't put my finger on what happened, apart from a Microsoft Windows update and also I turned on the Avast webcam shield - but when I turned it off, the webcam wouldn't work so I assumed that the registry was overwritten.
Today (now at the end of 2023), I reinstalled Tobii eye-tracking, I switched off Avast webcam shield and in Device Manager, I completely removed the Camera. However, the Camera wouldn't reinstall!!!
However, I found that both webcam and Oculus Rift S started working again.
I have to be honest. I have NO IDEA what happened and why this worked. I turned off the Avast webcam shield numerous times but the webcam wouldn't work.
But, if you have any issues;
1. Turn off your webcam shield
2. Turn on your eye tracking (I use Tobii)
3. Delete Camera from "Device Manager"
You have nothing to lose.
On a final note, this was the error I saw when my webcam wasn't working...

I searched online and every solution was useless but the above worked for me.
