Looked at a bunch of other posts and cant solve this issue. My headset was working fine until today where i was forced to get a using a meta account. Since then all i get is a "Facebook Session Expired" error. I've uninstalled Facebook and Oculus apps and reinstalled, no change. I created a new FB account and Linked it but again when i open the Oculus Gear VR app i get that error, rebooted the device, no change, removed all FB accounts from my device (S9+) and added only the new account, no change. My old Oculus account doesn't work as i get a "No network Connection" error there. WTF is up with Meta forcing users into this crap that is rife with issues. And I cant raise a ticket because there is no support option for Gear VR. And I refuse to buy a $400 headset just on principle...My existing one worked just fine until today.

Hi , have you managed to sort out the problem ?

This is what Meta customer service telling us. No timeframe, understand your frustration, engineer is working on it.
Meta engineer is working on it for many months already, such an incompetent engineer I can't imagine can survive in Meta.

We buy vr gear products for long term use. If the meta doesn't support it anymore then update us with the offline version of what we have without having to log in. Meta does not stop supporting us but does not allow us to use what we have purchased. Meta looks down on customers too much. Meta and samsung have to deal with this.

if samsung and meta-oculus stop supporting gear vr. Then you have to let users use it offline. In fact, you won't let us log in. But we have to log in to use offline apps. You destroy gear vr, causing damage, causing frustration to users. you must resolve this issue immediately. You have more than two years already. It is not possible to push all the damage towards the user like that. Too disappointed about samsung, oculus, meta.

So it wasn't a coincidence after all. What does the meta say about that? Was the user sending too many private messages too?

Still waiting for objective evidence that our request is solved by your "engineers".

These are presently the issues affecting the Samsung Gear VR app relating to account generation and account sign in from the Oculus Gear VR app.

Issue 1. When Facebook app is not installed or is disabled

The following error is given if the Facebook app is not installed or is disabled "For your account security, logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled. You may be able to continue updating the app you're logging in from and trying again."  I was able to fix this by enabling Facebook and installing the newest version.

Issue 2. When attempting to create a new account (at the final step for validating the email) the following error is displayed.

"No network connection. We're having a problem with connecting to your account. If your phone's Internet connection is working, then it's a problem at our end. Please try again later. Cancel or Retry"

However there is Internet connection because if you try to create an account with an existing Oculus or Meta email address the following message is displayed... "Email address exists - This email address is already registered to an Oculus account."

Account creation is still broken via the app and is only possible using the Meta accounts website instead.

Issue 3: Link Your Accounts. If you have a Facebook account and Meta account for an email address that has not yet been linked the following message is given.

"Existing account detected. The email address associated with your Facebook account has already been used to setup an Oculus account."  followed by "You can either link your accounts or use a different email address to create your Oculus account."

Clicking Link and Continue button does not link the Facebook account to the Meta account (No action is triggered).

The linking has to be done manually instead via the Meta accounts centre website.

Issue 4: When logging into Oculus by email using a Meta account (even if it is Linked to Facebook) and has Horizon profile configured and two factor authentication is disabled on the Meta profile.

"No Network Connection"  I couldn't find any fix for this.

Issue 5: When logging into Oculus by email using a Facebook account (even if it is Linked to Meta) and has Horizon profile configured and two factor authentication is disabled on the Facebook profile.

"Facebook Session Expired. Your Facebook session has expired or is invalid. Please log in to Facebook again."

I couldn't find any fix for this.

Issue 6: If you launch a VR app you are prompted to insert the phone into the headset.

"To open this application, insert your device into your Gear VR."

but the Oculus Home view will not open because Sign On is required.

"App login required. It looks like you are not logged into Oculus.

To continue, please remove your headset and log into the Oculus app."

There should be an option at this point to continue without sign on and list all locally installed applications

Issue 7: Workaround for Universal Menu Library does not list installed applications offline

If you insert the phone into the headset and hold onto the Return button on top of the headset while the message is displayed "Adjust your focus. Rotate the focus wheel until everything looks clear." (which appears just after the "Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus" intro). You are able to view the Oculus Home Universal Menu but clicking the Navigate > Library menu option does not list any locally installed applications because you are not signed in. This should work offline and not require a network connection.

Issue 8: If you open the Universal Menu (while not signed in) the following The Navigate buttons do not work.

e.g.

  • Tapping the Navigate > Home button does not open any window
  • Tapping the Navigate > Library button does not list any locally installed VR applications

library empty when signed outlibrary empty when signed out

  • Tapping the Navigate > Internet button asks you to select between Oculus Browser or Samsung Internet VR as the default Internet Shortcut for Oculus Home but clicking the Save & Open button does nothing. Clicking the Internet button always asks you to set an Internet Shortcut (regardless of whether you choose Oculus Browser or Samsung Internet)

oculus browser not saving as shortcut for oculus homeoculus browser not saving as shortcut for oculus home

samsung internet vr not saving as shortcut for oculus homesamsung internet vr not saving as shortcut for oculus home

  • Tapping the Navigate > Search button does not open any search screen
  • Tapping the Settings > See All button does not list any settings

settings do not appear when See All is selectedsettings do not appear when See All is selected

All  of these features should continue to function if an option is made available for us to continue signed out of Meta

I am unable to sign in to Oculus with the modern Meta account.

  • The horizon profile is setup.
  • Two factor authentication is disabled.
  • The account is not linked to Facebook.
  • The same error occurs even if linked to Facebook.
