Screen and remote problems my an oculus

Currently I was trying to fix my family members oculus quest 2. The problem started out with the remotes vibrating every few seconds. So we tried to factory reset the headset. I turned it on and it showed the setup screen for a few seconds and it went dark, but still played the setup music, and then the remotes started vibrating every few seconds again. I also tried to fix the vibrating by taking out the batteries for a few seconds. Thats all we have tried so far.

HI @AidenTheTwitchy. You are so nice to be assisting your family member with these issues they are having. We want to get a better idea of what the cause could be, so if you could please answer a few questions for us,?

  • When did the controllers start having issues?
  • Was everything working fine with the headset before the factory reset?
  • Is there any noticeable damage to the controllers?
  • Have you tried a hard reboot on your headset to get the screen working again?

We will be happy to proceed with any other troubleshooting after reviewing these details. If we need to get you a proper message, we can determine that after hearing back from you. We appreciate your time, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

It happened about 3 weeks ago. The remotes where not working before the facotory reset, we did the factory reset to see if we could fix the remotes, then after the factory reset the screen was not working. I do not see any damage to the controllers at all. We did try to do a hard reset, but everytime the setup screen would show for about 1 second and then turn black while still playing the music.

Thank you, @AidenTheTwitchy, for giving us that information. We do have a few more questions to ask you to see if these may help remedy your issues.

  1. Have you tried to unpair your controllers to your Quest device via the Quest app? You can see the steps for that here.
  2. Are you wearing the headset after you factory reset the device? It will not show any screen display without someone wearing the headset.
  3. Are you allowing the Quest headset to be fully charged? It should be plugged in for a full 2 hours using the provided cable and power brick.

Please let us know if any of the steps above help. We hope to hear from you soon!

Yes we have trued unpairing the remotes from the phone. I was also wearing the headset fully after the factory reset. Its not black like it was off. It definitely is the darkness you can see when you have the headset off though, it still looks lit up rather than pitch black. And we have had it plugged in for over two hours. We put it back on his charger after we are done with it everytime.

Also another weird thing I noticed was that I could see the volume change icon when I changed the volume and I could see the screen that you get before powering down your headset.

Thank you so much for clarifying what you are experiencing. Let's focus on the display issue first and once we fix that, we can look into what might be happening with the controllers. First, please remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect boot, such as external battery packs, accessories that plug into the USB-C port, etc. If there are none, we suspect that something went wrong during the factory reset process. Can you try another factory reset, for good measure? This can be completed both through the phone or headset. If the display still appears black like that afterwards, please contact us through private message, so we can explore other options together.
