Secondary/guest account can’t access meta app

My wife and I have Quest 3s.  We just upgraded from Quest 2.  We have both devices using my account, and she is a secondary account on one device so she can share all the apps.

However, she cannot seem to figure out how to purchase things on the Meta App to upload them to her account. It should be possible, and she used to be able to do this.

For example, she used to have Beatsaber music packs on her account (since Beatsaber doesn’t allow sharing music across accounts),  But now she has lost that music and cannot figure out how to connect her account to the app so she can buy and install her own apps and DLC

From what I’ve read this should be possible.  Any suggestions?

@DrDJM

seems other users have also problems with pairing the second account. It's from the german forum section.

You should send a bug report if you still can't pair the second account

This is some major B.S. right here.  The answer is because secondary accounts can not, under any circumstance, pair via the Meta Horizon app.  My guess is that you are getting a screen to pair with a code, but that never displays on your headset under her profile, right?  I'm having the same issue on our new headset.

They talk about it multiple places but it succinctly put here:

https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Multiple-accounts-on-quest-2-but-can-t-pair-on-second...

Of course, they don't bother to mention this limitation when you buy the headset, or in the instructions here:

https://www.meta.com/help/quest/articles/accounts/multiple-accounts-and-app-sharing/add-additional-m...

The more I use this thing, the more I realize what a trash company META is, and they have no a single clue what their user's want/need.

Yeah, there have been a few times when I thought “do they know what we actually want and how we actually use this device?“ at the same time, they could have not allowed app sharing, which would have sucked! You think this far into owning oculus they have figured things out but often the imperative is money making over user satisfaction! Anyway, I will keep trying, and it does seem that some of her music packs have shown up in Beat Saber after we did did a factory reset. It has not solved the problem of not being able to link to the app although at least we can see what she has purchased on her account and hopefully the makers of Beat Saber will allow us to install all of her music packs.

Ok. I think I actually figured this out!  And again, a big boo to META for giving users bad info and not providing support.  In my case (hopefully same as yours) we couldn't pair the second account to the Meta Horizon app because the pairing code would never display on the headset.

Well turns out the pairing code is the same for all users of the device, and you can find it under Settings > General > About.

Once I used that code I was able to pair and cast to the app and change headset settings.

I'm not sure it will solve app purchase issues, but let us know!

You know I did notice that code in settings, but I didn’t even try to connect it because by that point I had read so many times that you couldn’t do it. But I will try that.  Thanks for the reminder!

So just a warning.  I did this earlier today and it worked, but I was troubleshooting some graphical issues on my device as well which prompted me to return to store and get a headset that wasn't malfunctioning.  In setting it up again tonight I had some complications with this method, but still got it to work.  This is what you need to do:

- Login to your main profile on the headset.

- Login to the secondary on Meta Horizon app.  Try to connect to the headset and wait until you get the message to enter in the pairing code.

- Switch to your secondary profile on the headset.  Then enter your PIN into the app.

In my situation on the new headset, if I didn't do this and just tried everything from the secondary on both devices it hung on the screen that it detected the headset but would never prompt for the PIN.

Also, while it is possibly not related (but I think might be), after you do this, you might get weird messages in the store that you don't have a device setup if you try to purchase/download any application.  It still seems to work find, I just started getting this message which is I think related.

I think, you get this message because with the secondary account, you haven't set up a headset as an admin.

I'm not sure if this message also appeared earlier for secondary accounts that received their own code for pairing.

Anyway, great that you found a way to make it work👍

I just found this thread today and was psyched to see your solution. Unfortunately, it didn't work for us. 😢 Hubby still isn't able to pair his Quest 2 headset with the app—since he's the secondary account on that headset and I'm the primary so I can share all the apps I buy on my Quest 3 (Yup, he got the hand-me-down when I upgraded. LOL).

I had followed your instructions to the letter too, and we tried multiple times. I wonder if Meta devs saw this thread and shut even this method down. Grrr 😠
