Security concern - Unable to remove unconfirmed email address...

I have an email address that is not mine that was added on my account that I have no idea how/when it was added to my account. It shows as unconfirmed, yet I cannot delete it as the Meta page keeps requesting my facebook password and doesn't move to the next stage. When I tried on my mobile device there's a "Technical error" message that pops up for a split second.

  • To repeat the steps I followed, just use the: "Manage the email address associated with your Meta account" instructions. But get stuck in an endless loop where it requests my Facebook password, but doesn't move to the next step. 

I did secure my accounts by changing related passwords across Meta/Facebook pages, as well as other related accounts such as my email account. 

Need support from Meta, but that is also an endless circle as "they can't support things unrelated to using devices...". One would think account security should be one of those "supported" things...

Hey there @Charibdis08, I noticed that you are having some account issues. Having an unexpected info pop up on your account is something that should be taken seriously, and I want to do all that I can to guide you to the right path on having this issue looked into. Can you let me know of the following:

  • Is the unconfirmed email address is showing up on your Meta or Facebook account?
  • When you login to you Account Center, are you able to address the issue from there?
  • Are you still able to login to your headset and access your VR games despite this issue?

Here are the answers to the questions:

  • Is the unconfirmed email address is showing up on your Meta or Facebook account?
    • On my Meta account.

 

  • When you login to you Account Center, are you able to address the issue from there?
    • The Account Center does not allow me to address the issue. It allows me to see the issue but when I attempt to remediate the issue I get stuck in an endless loop. Functionality is not working as intended.
      • Steps to reproduce: 
        • Login to Account Centre
        • Navigate to Personal Details
        • Select Contact Info
          • Note: In here I see the unconfirmed email address.
        • I Select the unconfirmed email address and click on Delete Email.
        • On the pop-up select Delete. 
        • Receive Facebook Code email to my email address and enter the code
        • Then asked to "Please re-enter your password".
        • Enter password, click on submit.
          • A message appears below password box "Please enter your password again". It just sits here. I can enter good or bad information it just loops endlessly only stating "Please enter your password again."

 

  • Are you still able to login to your headset and access your VR games despite this issue?
    • Yes, I am able to login to my headset and access my games and apps successfully despite this issue.
      • As an added precaution, I've changed the account password, as well as reviewed 2FA options on the account.
