Hi, I’m a bit confused about two different Instagram message-related messages and would appreciate some clarification.
“Not everyone can message this account” vs “This account can’t receive your message because they don’t allow new message requests from everyone”
I understand the second message —
"This account can’t receive your message because they don’t allow new message requests from everyone."
— means the user has turned off message requests, so only people they follow can message them.
But I’m not sure about the first one —
"Not everyone can message this account."
What exactly does this mean?
Here’s a specific case I encountered:
I tried messaging a friend from my main account and saw the “Not everyone can message this account” message. When I asked him, he confirmed he hadn’t turned off message requests. To test it, I tried messaging him from my other account, and it worked just fine — the message request went through.
This isn’t an isolated case. It happens quite often with other accounts too — I can't send message requests to some people from my main account, even though those users haven’t restricted message requests.
So I have two questions:
What exactly is the difference between these two messages?
Why am I facing this issue with my main account and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help!
