Setting up the Quest3 (Link only) with no mobile phone

Hi all,

New here and currently getting good help from Meta about this.

But just wondering if anyone here has gone through this...

Mobile phone reception is so bad and always cutting out.

Landline and wired internet work great.

I have a CV1 and it works ok and I just want to upgrade.

I have no probs logging in with my CV1...not sure tho if this is an Oculus account or a Meta account?

I believe that having the Meta account may help with setup?

Only want the Quest3 for Unity and for some simple home-made sims

Don't require any "room setup" and do not require the hand controls.

Does all of this and the fact that I will only be using the wired or Link to PC option allow me to set things up without a mobile phone?

Thanks..

Colin.

Hey there, @Nilocyelraggab and welcome to the forums!

A mobile phone would be needed for the initial set-up. However, it would be paired/set-up using your Wi-Fi connection so having bad phone reception wouldn't effect the set-up.

Hope this helps! Looking forward to seeing you interacting on more forum posts in future.

Thanks for that, LordArceus...

No mobile phone here.. All landline stuff. Loved my CV1 and just wanted to plug in the Quest!

No mobile phone?? No Quest. Bugger!!

Any suggestions for something similar that I don't require a Mobile Phone to simply set things up?

Probably shouldn't ask that here but it's time to upgrade to something with more res etc..

Only need something for sims work. No need for hand controllers really or even any
"room sizing".

Any hints please. Hardware up to date 4070 gpu W10 32gig ram tons of HD. i9 cpu..

You would only need a mobile for the initial setup/pairing so if you were able to borrow a compatible IOS/Android phone off of a friend/family member then you could try that.

Understandably I wouldn't be able to recommended other similar devices, but VR Compare is a great site you can use for doing your own headset comparisons 👀

Hi again!

Sorry to be a bit of a bother..I received this reply from Meta..

"In regards to your question, you can set up the Quest 3 using your landline internet via the LINK cable without the need for a mobile phone or Wi-Fi. However, as you know you will still need your mobile app to have the meta quest account to be registered and if you already have that sorted, than there should be no issue at all."

I do have a Meta account "sorted out"..as was put.. Just a bit confused..Hey, I'm nearly 80!..But does the message mean that I still require a Mobile phone just to set up some app? Cannot this be done via PC and Internet?

Problem is that here no one has reception unless one travel about 300 km to the east.

Cheers,

Colin.

Yes, you need a mobile phone for the app for account registration but it would pair with the headset via wi-fi so it wouldn't rely on you having network coverage on the phone. As long as it can connect to your internet then you'd be fine.
