Shimmering jagged edges on Quest 3

Hi. A newbie here, please don't kick too hard.

I have just finished setting up a new Quest 3 headset. Went through initial setup, Meta Horizon app pairing etc. Everything appears to work apart from crazy amount of running ants / shimmer / wobble in the pass-through and what's worse - the native Quest 3 graphics also getting crazy amount of pixelation / shimmer / flickering around the edges of objects. Not even a particular game, even in the home screen default environment.

Wonder if there is a way to somehow tell what resolution the current graphics is rendered at? Cause it feels like everything is super low res with no anti-aliasing enabled.

I had a chance to try Quest 3 at a party some time ago and don't recall the graphics nor pass-through to be this bad.

I recorded a video on the headset itself and the shimmer is clearly visible in the video. It is especially visible on the texture stitching edges of the round platform you stay on, the staircase and the stage above the staircase. Also the edges of UI element e.g. the edges of selected blue "Recording" button.

Tried to follow some suggestions from Meta support that I managed to dig on these forums about similar issues. Restarting the headset, factory resetting etc. No difference whatsoever.

Any advice please?

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, this would be a normal occurrence for users on the Quest and can vary on different apps and games whether the developer use the native resolution or a bit less in order to save on power.

Hopefully this clears everything up for you and if you have any further questions you'd like to ask us, please feel free to let us know!

Hey there @voidcoder

We have come across your post and it does appear that there may be some issues with a shimmering-like effect on your display screen. We would like to assure you that this is not an uncommon occurrence and is usually due to aliasing on the home screen taskbar. It is a known fact that Quest runs at a lower resolution than native there and in most standalone games to save energy.

Hi. Thanks for the prompt reply. So the low res home screen is intentional expected behaviour then? Including the low quality shimmering pass-through?
