All the reading suggests that batteries (including instructions for the Quest 3 headset battery) should be re-charged before they deplete below 20 percent to preserve battery health. According to the breakdown of battery health within the headset, the Elite battery strap depletes to zero before it starts using the headset battery. I have also read that keeping the battery constantly at 100% also increases battery strain and leads to less effective battery performance overtime. This would indicate that the elite strap should be disconnected at or above 20% and below 50% as recommended in the instructions for the main headset, and then to plug the strap back in when the headset reaches the same thresholds so that both units can charge back to 100%. There are no specific instructions for the elite head strap in this regard. Can anyone confirm the correct process for battery health or is it designed so regularly letting the elite strap deplete to zero so the headset battery kicks in won’t hurt the head strap battery over time

@a4ange I've just let my Q3 Elite battery strap run down to 0% (which then starts drawing the headset battery) a number of times without any problems, leaving it connected. I do tend to try to avoid letting the headset battery go below ~20% before powering down and recharging everything again. Also, once fully charged I generally disconnect the Elite battery strap at the end of my playing day. Otherwise, it tends to drain about 10-15% overnight.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I note you are allowing the elite strap battery discharge to zero a number of times. Can you tell me the time frame you have been doing this for? Is it longer than the warranty period? In addition to how long, can you tell me has the battery performance declined over this time period? Lastly did you get any advice from Meta to confirm this is OK, as usually lithium batteries are adversely affected when completely drained, especially frequently.

I've been doing this for about 10 months now and haven't noticed any battery degradation, Meta support has never said that the Q3 Elite battery strap battery shouldn't be fully used to 0%, which then switches over to the headset battery automatically. I think that this is what it's designed to do. I don't know for sure but I suspect that the 0% Elite strap battery actually still has some reserve in it, so probably not actually 100% discharged. Sorry, all I can tell you mate.
Like I said earlier, I try not to let my headset battery fall below 20%, same as I do with my almost 2yo QPro headset. You generally start getting low battery warnings around then anyway. In any case, please do whatever you think's best. Cheers.

Thanks so much for taking the additional time to elaborate further 🙂 Your advice does provide some context for comfort, especially since you seem to have been doing it for a while without problems. I’ve read so much about battery issues with the straps not charging ect, so just trying to do everything I can to look after it because it’s currently brand new and I’ve only used it twice. Like you I haven’t seen anything definitive on this specifically from Meta help. From my readings in this forum I’m also disconnecting the elite battery for storage once the strap and headset are both fully charged. Like you I’m also trying not to let the main headset drop below 20%. I am very grateful for your advice 🙂 Cheers
