I have been using Rookie to side load my APK packages that I developed in Unity to the Meta Quest 3 and, once I found the correct process to connect the Meta Quest 3, the process worked. I was able to side load the Unity APK package and run it on the Meta Quest 3 without using the PC Link.
However, after I updated to the latest version, I am not able to run some of the Meta Store apps and I am unable to sideload content. Apps like Meta Video (or whatever it is called) and Skybox Trail will not run. They install but when run they exit immediately. When I try side loading custom apps, Rookie indicates that the installation completed successfully but the side loaded apps don't appear in the apps menu (even under the unknown sources).
Some of the side loaded apps that I installed previously still work while others stopped working.
I need to get the side loading working because one of the reasons I bought the headset was to explore creating my on VR apps.
I have tried restarting the headset but the problem persists.
A related question would be: Is there a file manager app similar to those that you can get for android phones which would allow running APK packages?
When connected to a PC the Meta Quest 3 shows up as a USB device which makes it really easy to transfer media (such as videos) to it. However, it seems this method cannot be used to transfer APK packages (i.e. side load applications) because the stock Meta File application does not allow running of APK packages. You can copy the APK package over but with nothing to run it on the headset side, it is useless.
Being able to run such packages via a custom File Manager would eliminate the reliance on side loaders like Rookie or Sideloader.
