Slow charging on Meta Quest 3

Mysticum
Honored Guest

The first times I charged the Meta Quest 3, it charged quickly. I've heard about 2 hours for full charge, and quicker of course in the beginning. That seems on-par with my experience.

But now, after a couple of charges up to 50-80%, it suddenly charges super slowly.

It went from 9% to 19% in almost two hours. I tried to connect it and disconnect it several times, but it still charges super slowly. It's now 20% (from 19%) in 15 minutes. What is going on?

I'm using the official charger, but I did try with another one as well with the same result. What is wrong?

For me there is no shutdown button.  But the is a power off.  When I select power off it does the same thing it does when you power it off normally.

Hello there, Seagate01184! From your post you are indicating that your Quest 3 is slow to charge, and that when you power off from the Menu the issue does not change. Many folks have resolved similar issues by hard power-cycling the Quest device. To do that, just hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound. If  for some reason the boot-up sound is not heard try these steps:

  • Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
  • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

Give that a shot and if you are still having issues with it slow charging, reach back out with any additional symptoms you may be experiencing and we'll see what the best way forward will be!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers, got this delivered today and charged it. Everything was fine, but it didn't last long, could be, I robocop demo & downloaded some of my library.

Plugged in to charge & 2.5h later, the orange light is still on. Read your notes, unplugged, donned H/S, and it had been doing an U/D & waited for a restart.

So I'm just charging it again...

Funny thing is, when will most of us learn about the simple things. I have the Oculus,  Oculus Rift,  & The Quest 2 already...

Writing this, it's just finished charging.

Again, cheers.

I still have this issue even after hard rebooting the device

Hi there, @Silvernexon! We certainly want to do our best to make sure your VR sessions are running smoothly, so we've chimed in to offer some further assistance! It's essential that we let you know that the headset should charge in about 2 hours if using the provided power adapter (included in the box) to charge the headset from a wall outlet. The performance of third-party adapters cannot be guaranteed, even if they appear to be similar to the official adapter. We recommend always using the power adapter (included in the box) to charge the Headset. We also suggest removing any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.) Let us know if you're running into any error messages on your headset and we can continue from there!

Quest 3 charges very slow no quick charge. My 4 year old phone can do 4x the charging speed.

Hey there, @Toschy! We know that having charging issues while trying to enjoy VR gaming can delay an amazing VR experience, so we would love to look further into this for you in order to get you back to a smooth VR experience.

Before we start, could you please try the troubleshooting steps and answer the questions listed below just so we can get a better understanding of this matter?

  1. Are you using the provided power adapter to charge the headset?
  2. Does your headset feel warm to the touch? If so, you may not have noticed the stopped charging notification. If the headset detects that an internal temperature threshold has been reached, it will disable charging to prevent damage to the headset. For this, we advise you to disconnect the charging cable and allow the headset to cool before trying to charge it again.
  3. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.).
  4. Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours.
     - When used, Quest 3 will consume power faster than it can charge. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during charging.
     - Computer USB ports will not provide sufficient power to charge the Quest 3, resulting in a very slow charge or failure to charge at all. The headset must be connected to a wall outlet using the provided power adapter.
  5. If you have another Quest 3 power adapter (such as from a second headset), have them try the other power adapter.
Note: Apple product chargers will not work with Quest 3.
  6. Are you using a facial interface accessory? If so, try to charge the headset again without the facial interface accessory. Some facial interfaces may block the proximity sensor, which can impact the power of the headset.
  7. If you are using the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories, try to disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories and try charging the headset again.
  8. Try charging from a different source (another wall outlet), preferably one on a circuit.
     - If using a splitter, power bar, or extension cord, try removing it and plugging it directly into the wall outlet.
  9.  Have there been any liquid spills on the headset?
  10. See if the headset will load the boot screen and then exit out:
    a. Hold the power and volume (-) buttons on the headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads.
    b. Exit and reboot the headset.
  11. If it is still not charging properly, factory reset the headset. Please ensure you have cloud backup enabled before performing a factory reset.

Keep us updated and let us know how it goes. If you are still having these issues where your headset is charging slowly, please don't hesitate to let us know so we can continue to look into this for you. We look forward to hearing back from you soon!
